are you seriously stating that this wouldn't have happened if there were more patrols? That's ridiculous... they could put the entire Phoenix PD out here and it still would have happened...

Seriously.. you think the MPD is capable of patrolling the ENTIRE Maricopa area every five minutes? This vandalism probably took less than 2 minutes to do.. you seriously think a patrol car every 2 minutes is feasible in ANY city?

Just because you don't see the MPD patrol doesn't mean it doesn't happen... and just because some graffiti happens doesn't mean they aren't working..

Stop whining over getting a speeding ticket and get pro-active in your community.. having a pro-active position in your community will do more than all the officers in the world..

You need to get over whatever superiority complex you have.  First of I have never been ticketed for speeding here in Maricopa or have had any other citations.  I have no beef with with the police officers.  I have stated before that their response time is awesome.  I do however have a beef with whoever is making policy that keeps MPD from patroling nieghborhoods randomly and with most of the police.

If you don't think that random patroling is effective then you have a problem!  You think that if cops were patroling the nieghborhoods you would have large groups of teenagers hanging out drinking and then getting into fights.  GET FRIGGIN REAL!!  Teenagers go where the police are not.  We both know that because we were both once teenagers...  Your comment that the whole of the city can be patroled every five minutes is just plain stupid.  Noone said that or implied that.  What we are implying is that were are having problems in our neighborhoods with crime and kids and more proactive measures are needed.

Your remarks about me not being activein the community are just as stupid as your comments on me wanting the whole of the city to be patroled every 5 minutes.  Why do you think I know how well they respond?  Why do think I know the crime is by teenagers....Duh....Because I watch and report and stay active....

Get a clue, we had a sirious gang fight here, there are likely to be more.  A greater police presence will deter this kind of activity.  You don't think 4 or 5 officers cruising the nieghborhoods can cover a lot of ground?  Then it is you who doesn't have much respect for what police can do.   I have no idea why you would post such a knuckle-headed response unless you are just being contrary....are you a forum troll, shane?  Geez, we have a gang fight that may have killed someone occuring in my nieghborhood and you think I'm whinning because I got a speeding ticket.....geez....THAT's ridiculous!!!

I think MPD has been using a few vacant houses in developments for neighborhood surveillance. I think some of the builders are allowing this because of the break in to vacant houses. Kids have been partying & trashing the vacant houses. So I think jumping up and down on MPD like they are not doing anything is not right. I am sure they are trying to catch kids in the act but it is a tough thing to do. I counted 12 squad cars at the fire on Friday night, now I know all of those cars were not working 347 for speeders. I am just saying its easy to harp on the cops but they are doing there job anyway you look at it. MPD does what they can and I never really see anything positive said about that.

What happened to your car really sucks that kids would do that. I really hope they get caught.

Ok I am off my soapbox

I think we have great police officers.  I think they need to be re-directed to have a community focus.  Popping speeders on 347 is great for revenue for the city but does little to prevent crime in the nieghborhoods.  Maybe we go to one patrol car a night on 347 and the rest cruise the hoods?  Maybe we go to more PD at night?  Something needs to change.  If the PD is using bait houses that's great.  Maybe they should make that known as a deterent.  For police, being visible and vocal aids in their job.

Sounds like a good place to have a neighborhood watch. Get to know your neighbors if you don't. Police don't have the time or the resources to take care of everything. Maybe if everyone kept an eye out for each other we could stop some of this

MPD certainly has something to do with the crime in the area. Irvine, California, is a city with the population of over 200,000. Irvine is in Orange County, California, a county which is NOT rural or crime free by any means.

http://www.ci.irvine.ca.us/depts/ps/default.asp

Anyway, the whole reason we got our own police department in the first place was so we could have a say in how we protect our city.

Don't get too worked up about catching these guys. As business owners we have had over $20,000 worth of stuff stolen, last month $3000 damage to our building and found a stolen SUV on our property. The police don't do anything once they catch them so don't get your hopes up. Crackshead and gangs get a good nights sleep in jail, then they are out. Each time it is because the system down here does not handle it properly. We have nots of cops that love to speed around with sirens but don't like that paperwork BS that truly takes care of the situation. I can testify first hand on these situations.

I have never receieved a speeding ticket in my life. Nice try. I have seen a MDP car 2 times in my neighborhood since they went active last year. Does that mean they have only been by twice? No, but I am outside all the time. However the minute I hit the 347, bam there they are.

And to say I don't get pro active just goes shows how clueless you are. Were you out last Thursday afternoon looking for the suspect that beat up those kids? No, but I was.

Is everyone here aware of this MPD program? I just stumbled on to it tonite, I am somewhat of a nite owl, I will check to see if they have any open spots late in the night.

In connection with the Maricopa Police Department's new Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS), the MPD is announcing two new volunteer opportunities. The department is looking for community members that would be interested in volunteering to assist with a new Graffiti Abatement Task Force and/or Volunteer Citizens on Patrol.

MPD has a pretty good idea of who these kids are. When I got a good tip on the kids who vandalized my house and called the MPD, they already knew all about this group and they know what they drive and all of their names. Its time something is done about this group and it better be soon.

Im the one speeding on the 347, move over or get run over!

Wait...so MPD thinks they know who these kids are? And they are doing what??

This happened to a friend of mine in March. Several cars in his neighborhood were spray painted...I'm not sure if they had gang signs (thankfully we had left his house by then!) I know there were swear words and I know they spray painted at least one house, too. This was in Acacia Crossings and the cops said that they had hit other cars/houses in the neighborhood beside the ones on his street.

To think I've been more worried about the construction crew building the house next to us dropping something on my car....guess I should be more worried about idiot teenagers.

I agree with VikingsFan...I he wasn't blaming the victim but we have garages for a reason, we need to use them. It is the same reason I don't leave my front door unlocked. When I leave my car parked outside because I thought I was going to go somewhere and then forget to park it in the garage, I hope to God it's not vandalized to stolen but if it is, i only have myself to blame. I bought a house with a garage for a reason. And it's not so it will start anymore.

Fine.

I have more than 2 cars.  My garage holds 2 cars.  Now what?  Bigger house?

The car is locked and alarmed.

The problem is not with where/ how I parked my car, but with the brain-dead parents here.

MPD DOES know whats going and is failing to do much. The officers that came to my house didnt seem to care and blamed us for that vandalism. I do have a garage BUT I have other things in there other than my truck. My truck wouldnt fit in there anyway, its too long and too tall. I wasnt home at the time this stuff happened to my house but my brother was and those kids nearly had their payback. One happens to live on my street in AC. I hope they know that WE know where they live, I KNOW their names and where they work. I hope they are scared too. MPD needs to do something about these kids now or they need to turn themselves in.

Im the one speeding on the 347, move over or get run over!
