From 5/2/08 City of Maricopa's Five on Friday email:

"The Transportation Division will host a public meeting at Global Water Center on May 8, 2008 at 6:00 p.m.  Residents will be able to learn more about the Hiller Road Feasibility Study, Safe Routes to School and Maricopa's Regional Transportation Plan. Presentations on each of these topics will be presented, and the consultants for the projects, along with city staff, will be available to answer any questions."

Anyone know why a feasability study was done on Hiller Road?  My county map reflects it to be on Gila River Community land.  One segment runs from the eastern edge of the Southern Dunes Golf Club eastward to the 347 hwy.  Another segment runs from the 347 Hwy, southeast, then east to White-parker Road, all on Gila River Community land.

I attended tonight's meeting.  No alternate routes to Phoenix were discussed and apparently none are planned.  It was an excellent presentation, but the feasibility studies discussed were for areas west and south of Maricopa's current center of population.

I continue to be amazed that an alternate route to Phoenix isn't a top priority.

I'm not amazed. The transportation department here is worthless. What a waste of tax payer dollars to pay these people for nothing.

They are who we thought they were!

There can not be any alternate route to Phoenix from Maricopa. All of the land between is Reservation land and the Tribe will not lease it. You will have to wait until the 310 to AZ238 connection is made in about 15 years. You are more likely to see light rail in the median of AZ 347 in about ten years. Heavy rail from Phoenix to Tucson will most likely bypass Maricopa and be along I10

"What me worry"

If you don't know where you are going, it matters less what road you take

Poobaa ... Read this entire article.  Here's an excerpt from it:

"Maisonet said the TTT was specifically looking at Seed Farm Road for a new interchange – a road that leads directly to the community’s hospital and government facilities and is roughly aligned with Smith-Enke Road in Maricopa. An overpass is already in place for that road crossing I-10. Maisonet said the community is well aware of how their own citizens and Maricopa residents can be trapped by current road options."

Doesn't sound to me like the Gila River Community is uncooperative at all.
