My neighbor informed me months ago that he has five pit bulls and that I should be careful to keep my dogs in the house because he can't guarantee their safety.

Today, I walked outside to check up on my kids who were playing in the driveway, and my dog stepped on the porch. The man was walking two of his dogs and one growled and turned towards my house. He restrained it. I called in the kids and told them to go into their homes whenever they see these dogs.

Why is that okay? Why is a person permitted to own animals that he cannot control? And does this show of aggression justify a call to Animal Control?

Wow, that guy is in for a big lawsuit if his dogs hurt someone or another animal, especially if you come forward with what he told you.

Doesn't matter what breed the dog is, the owner has the responsibility of controling the animal.

I don't know if on a general basis a dog growling at someone as it is being walked down the street is a basis for calling animal control, but since he already admitted to vicious dogs, you may just want to make a report just in case something does happen.

From personal experience I can tell you that a house with more than 4 dogs requires a kennel license. The county should be made aware of this house if they aren't already.

I thought I read that there were restrictions on the number of animals someone could own. So can't you call the city about that?

I definitely agree with the others.  Both animal control and the city should be made aware of the situation with your neighbor and his dogs.  He is violating city (and probably HOA) rules and his aggressive dogs are a disaster waiting to happen.  When I think of all the news reports I have heard about pit bulls and other aggressive breeds and what they have done to other dogs and small children I shudder.  Even an adult stranger can be a target.

What is with Pit Bulls anyway and why is it the official pet of Maricopa? We may as well have the city refurbish the fighting arena on azcarrier's property so the citizens can get in some R and R. This place just gets better and better.

Yep! 4 dogs are the legal limit. More than 4 requires a kennel license.  Report this guy.

The city should ban this types of dogs in the city limits. No need for them. Don't care how friendly they are.

Check your HOA rules, I know that mine only allows you to have 3 dogs. Anything over 3 is a violation. I dont know why you would want to have 5 dogs anyway.

I agree with drummer 72 AND I have owned 2 very nice pitbulls years and years ago only to finally figure out how dumb and schitzophrenic they are...mine was the leader of dog obedience but he and she would snap(schitzo) sooner or later, they will even fight their own littermates or fight their own tail if there is nothing else to go after..or worse attack a kid or owner...its only sooner or later trust me...i tried to prove people wrong and for the sake of it had my pits certified to visit the ill in hospitals, certified in everything from obedience and temperament but you know what all the training in the world cant remove the schitzophrenic nature of them snapping sooner or later, you can tell me I'm wrong but I've trained dozens of pitbulls and snap they will, beware of those dogs they have too much prey drive sooner or later, if you have one i wish you the very best seriously..socialize them when they are pups til no end....im sure theres a few that wont go schitzo but i havent met one....rotties are a close 2nd but at least those are loyal and will accept good training, i do love rotties...do yourself a favor and get the ultimate dog: a german shepherd: loyal til no end, smartest IQ proven of any dog anytime, my shepherds know 5 languages by the age of 2 including sign language... he'll rip someones arm off if i told him too, he wont dare attack unless i give that command...my shepherds play with infants and do no harm... but if you want the best dog a female mutt will be the safest with no health problems in all probabilities, sorry to offend anyone but I've trained hundreds of 'tough dogs' from rotties, dobermans, bull mastiffs, pits and all others, best of luck with any breed you own, they are ALL beast lets not forget

They make great guard dogs too which should be of use since the police in Maricopa only car about speeding tickets.

You should be banned from the city limits for having such a narrow viewpoint. Stop trying to take other peoples freedoms away.

I'm armed when I go jogging just in case someone's pitbull gets loose and thinks I look tasty. It would be the last bite they ever took! So, yes caveman, people are free to own dogs who are capable of killing and I'm free to carry a pocketknife to defend myself.

I was almost attacked by a dog once while going out to my car (which was parked in the driveway). Fortunately I had pepper spray with me and that stopped him long enough for me to get in the car. Some form of protection while jogging is a good idea, not only for dogs but other "predators" as well. Just be sure the protection you take with you is something you're willing to use when/if the time comes.

Yes it is disgusting to me to think that someone would have 5 dogs in a home here in a subdivision but to try and ban pitbulls is ignorant. As with any dog, the behavior isn't by breed but by how they are treated. I have a pitbull and I am a women, I don't have him for protection or to feel tough so what now????

If it's not the breed, then why are they responsible for most of the deaths in human dog bites?
