I remember at the last HOA meeting I attended we were told it would be rough for a while, but seriously, I feel as I live in a ghetto now.  Examples, weeds are rampant everywhere, our sign is damaged, greenbelts look brutal, houses either for sale or owned by the bank that are in disarray (i.e. house on the corner of Brittlebrush and Mescal) and the latest.....GRAFFITI ON A HOUSE???  (44286 w. Yucca ln.)  This has gone too far....

I would have to agree completly. The area facing Alterra near our sign is overrun with weeds. No weed killer is going to rid us of that mess. Im not sure what the landscaping company is doing every other week. At least mow the grass....

I agree, this is very frustrating on top of the fact that we are in a negative equity situation on our home after only living in DC for less than two years. However, we as homeowners HAVE to own this problem now, nobody is going to save us from it. I am wondering if there are enough of us who would be willing to pull together a HOA workday and then split up the neighborhood into zones and try and tackle the weed issue. We could wrap up the day with a BBQ or something at the park. Just a thought.

Totally love the idea.  Check your emails.  I sent out an email blast a little while ago about a major clean up day along with our 2nd Annual Spring Fling on 5/10/08.

As for the house with the graffiti that also has been addressed.  Due to the fact that it is private property we just can't go and take care of the problem.  I've contacted the city and a violation notice has been sent to them due to hazard conditions.

This was obviously done by an adult that knows about HOA's.  That in itself is a very sad situation.  Why and how can an grown person deface someone else's property like that.  I know before you beat me up...people get totally fed up and do stupid things.  I agree but it still doesn't make any sense to me.

The clean-up sounds great. I'll try to get the day off work. As for the graffiti, it's just horrible that I have to see this everyday. I was embarrassed when I had company over and they asked me what that was about. I hope the city does something about this soon.

As for homes that are in disarray that are for sale, does the HOA make contact with the realtor to tell them to clean up the property, or can anyone call to talk to them about it???

I see that the weeds are being picked and/or sprayed.  That makes me happy...

Even though I wasn't able to help out due to work, I want to thank all the volunteers that cleaned up DC.  It looks nice again!!!

Is it true that the HOA is making us pay for trash now? Do we get a break on the HOA amount?

Yes the homeowners will now be responsible for paying Maricopa Disposal directly the $13 a month for the trash.  The first month (June) will be a monthly billing but then on will be billed quarterly.  You should have already gotten your notice from Maricopa Disposal and a post card notice from the management company. The dues have been lowered with the new amount showing on the post card.

This was done so that the homeowners will no longer have to pay for the ones that decide that they don't want to pay.  If the homeowner doesn't pay the trash bill then they won't have service.  No different now than electricity or any other bill.

We are still under a contract with Maricopa Disposal it is only the billing that has changed.
