Alert | I was at my son's school last week and started to talk with one of the moms. When she asked where I lived and I said Tortosa, she responded with..."that is such a bad neighborhood to live in." I was completely shocked in almost insulted. I realize that a lot of people affectionately call Maricopa "the ghetto" but never felt that I actually lived in one. And always liked how Tortosa was secluded from town. While driving through our neighborhood this weekend, I realized how awful Tortosa looks compared to a lot of the other neighborhoods in town...Acaica, RED, Villages, Alterra. One example is: Are they EVER going to finish the watch tower? I mean, it's great that you FINALLY figured out how to get the water running, but are you ever going to landscape around it...or do we have to look at the dirt for ever. Also, if we're paying $80+ month for HOA, why do we have dead grass everywhere? And most importantly, as home owners, if our front yard is missing gravel, weeds, etc. we get a warning and ultimately fined. Can we, the home owners, turn around and fine the HOA for the vacant homes that are in violation? It is the HOA's responsibility to keep the vacant homes in compliance...correct? Have you ever found yourself feeling the same way?

Alert | | Its funny that this was brought up.. we walked over to the park yesterday and noticed a guy planting pretty flowers in his front yard. We stopped and asked him if he had gotten it approved to put the flowers in. He said he tried but they denied him... They had told him to stick to the normal landscape... So ofcourse he and his friend down the street (both houses look awesome) get fines every week for $50. Now the house next door has weeds, a white garage door and pink and blue curtains ( which we found out if you have anything other then white or beige you get fined) and I guess they never get anything. HOA is a bunch of crap if you want my opinion. We pay so much and get nothing. It urks me that we get treated so crappy. Have you noticed the main lady driving around taking pics WATCH OUT!! Shes hitler!! We need to do something even if its no to pay our hoa, or reelect a new hoa. Something needs to be done.. Take of the dang Maricopa broadband atleast that will free up $30.. I dont know we are ready to move and get our own land.. last time I checked we made the mortgage but if you can follow rules for everyone the maybe letting our mortgage g wont be that bad.. Sorry just had to vent

Alert | | I live over in Savano (Atreuz or something, use to be Homelife) and the builder has finished all of the houses in our area, however for some reason they are not required to maintain the lawns of these un-purchased homes and since about 30% is still for sale it really makes it look like crap. Plus if I lived next to a lot that is still for sale I would probably give up on trying to keep my yard looking good as the weeds next door would just keep coming over.

Alert | We have brown grass because the landscapers wanted to give the grass a rest or something so that it would grow in better this year. That's what I was told anyway. It's starting to green up finally!

Alert | Tortosa isn't a dump or ghetto. Do we have some neighbors who don't take pride in their homes? Of course. I think every single community has neighbors who ruin it for everyone, but it doesn't make it the ghetto. We have renters probably who don't care, cause they don't own the home or those who do own who again, don't care for whatever reason, but this is true everywhere.
Before we bought our home, we lived in a very nice luxury apartment in North Scottsdale, where down the street, homes were selling for at least $1 million. However, around the corner for our complex was a murder due to a drug deal gone wrong. So, even areas that have wonderful reputations have issues.
We're not the ghetto. we're not perfect, but we're not the ghetto either. to me, the ghetto is where you feel you can't open your windows or walk down the street for fear of something happening. I feel safe walking to the mailbox in the dark.
Anyways, Im happy to be here, I don't find my neighborhood to be the ghetto.
Oh, but i do agree on one thing, would be nice to get the tower some landscaping. It is sorta weird seeing a nice water tower and then just dirt. I'm assuming maybe they are waiting till it's safe that it won't be freezing at night? If its not landscaped by April, then it's time we do complain about that.

Alert | Charann, I have lived in Tortosa for two years and there has been little change to that useless and eye sore of a tower, I don't think we need to wait til April to be upset. We are flat out being taken advantage of by "our" HOA, who do nothing but count our $84.50 a month and wait around until they can raise it again. We have no amenities to warrant such a ridiculous HOA fee!! I feel as we have been defeated by the one's who are "suppose" to be looking out for "our" best interest and "our" home values. I wouldn't suggest not paying your HOA fee's in protest, they will just use our money for lawyer's fee's to take you down and just run you more money in the long run. Tortosa will not be at 75% ownership anytime soon, which means we have a lot of complaining and no results to be doing for the next 5 to 7 years! I have tried to organize a petition to vote this HOA out of here, but there just isn't enough participation, either from so many people being renters or it just doesn't bother people as much as it bother's me and some of us on the forum.

Alert | We would sign it as well. Maybe someone should schedule a meeting with us owners and see what we can come up with. Until then, I have started to call the HOA office and report all "violations" i see that should be attended to by them, i.e. cracked sidewalk, weeds growing by the mailboxes, etc. Hopefully this will work in having them fix some of the problems in the neighborhood. Join my efforts and do the same. Make them work for their outrageous salary.

Alert | | Ive jsut about accepted that we got ripped off with our HOA management. Its not the houses (which are horrid). Its the common grounds. The common grounds are starting to have just as many weeds as the homes. Im to the point I just want to move and Im considering it once the market comes around. On our street I would say at least 1in 4 homes are full of weeds and a few homes still ahve XMas lights up. Xmas lights arent that big of a deal but Im sure its against the rules and jsut pointing htat out because I dont think the HOA does anything to anyone but collect money. I hope they prove me wrong. | | Pizzaking Wasnt a member 0 posts
