02/18/2008 10:06 AM Alert

This weekend someone planted some sort of explosive device in the Hummer guy's hummer here in Tortosa (Savano).  The explosion shook my house.  The fire department showed up about 10 minutes later.  They tore the headliner out and only used a fire extinguisher on the Hummer but i'm sure it's totaled.  Most of the damage appears to be to the interior and it was a powerful explosion.

I spoke to an officer afterward and he said it was "intentional".  It sounded like someone hit my house with a car.  Crazy.

Anyone else heard any details?  it just seems so shady to me.

It was Saturday night around midnight. I was up with our newborn and thought someone next door slammed the door, thats when I realized i was not in my apartment anymore and that someone might have just hit my house. I woke up the wife to hold the baby and I headed out side and found a few neighbors with flashlights looking around their house. We then realized the hummer was smoking and called the cops. Anyone know the phone number to call the local PD to ask questions like this? I really want to know whats going on, that is twice in 2 weeks that something bad happens only 5 houses away.

I spoke to a Sheriff this morning and he said it's unlikely we'll get information at this point because it's an "ongoing investigation".  He'd heard of it but said he honestly didn't know the details other than it was an explosive device on a parked vehicle.

I did not hear anything! I had my father-in-law here and the baby did not even wake up! There was a party acrossed the street from me that night, so I was ignoring noise already, but I am not that far from the Hummer guys house.

A house was hit by a drunk driver?

Also, does anyone talk to the Hummer guy?  I'd like to know exactly what happened for safety reasons if anything.  I have kids and want to know if this was random or if there are other sinister elements in the neighborhood.  So much for a quiet and secluded neighborhood huh?

What house was hit by a drunk driver and when? I heard nothing on that.

Only thing we even heard about was the fire and we did hear the sirens, but this Saturday, we heard nothing and we were up, in fact, i was laying on the sofa with my dog without the tv on, just relaxing, so I'm not sure why I heard nothing.

We're in Barcelona, so I'm not sure who the hummer guy is. That is scary that things seem to be happening in our community, especially 2 things a week or so apart (fire and now this) in the same subdivision seems a bit off. I wonder if both of those are related? Just scary how people are in this world that they feel they can do what they want to who they want when they want. Scary!

Maybe it's time to seriously consider getting a block watch together??

I just walked outside and saw the Hummer in the driveway of his house and it looks fine. There does not even look like a scratch is on it. I am only see one side of the Hummer, so maybe the other side looks bad, but from here it looks perfect I walk by his house every day to get my mail and see him outside alot; if I see him today I will ask what happened. I did not hear about the drunk driver???

yeah the house that was hit by the drunk driver is on Velqueaz. Its a single story house. The guy ran into the 3rd car garage. Its around the corner from the hummer guys house. We are talking about the black hummer right? The drunk driver just got back from Irag and was out partin (23yrs old) I guess went around the round a bout, lost some beer there, went thew a yard or 2 near us (Cordoba and Bilboa) and then went homeon Velqueaz then decided to turn around went back threw some yards and eneded up in a garage. Needless to say the booked and then released him to his parent. The car still had stucco on the car and everything ... yeah this isnt good

Look at the front windshield and the interior, that's where the damage is.  If you talk to him, please let us know what he says.  He looked pretty bummed when the firefighters were tearing out his headliner with their axes.  I feel for the guy.  What's weird is me and the other neighbors came out before he did.  It took him literally 5 minutes to come out.  Judging by the force and power of the explosion, he must have been in a really deep sleep.  lol.

I think every part of Maricopa has its good and bad, this was our month of bad. I did not see him yesterday to ask what really happened. I did look at the Hummer and he must have gotten the windshield fixed because it looked fine to me ( I am no expert, but not shattered). I think that Tortosa has some wonderful people living here and I have wonderful neighbors, so I can't complain It was very unfortunate about the fire, ect., but we all come together as a community and help that is what makes Tortosa not a getto!

Tortosa is the ghetto can wait till I move in march!!! car bombings hahah I mean if you were going to do some bombing at least take out the guy with the 3 crappy caddies especially the pink one that cant be good for real estate prices!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are a ton of Caddies out here I noticed.  Weird.  I don't think it's the ghetto, there is just a real mix of people.  You never know who you're living next to, it's kind of scary.  lol.

Yep, there are two Valezquez Drives...one in Savano which is where the fire and Hummer Guy lives...and one in Calabria, which is where the driver hit the house.

The insurance investigator came knocking on my door yesterday to ask about what I knew about it, and what I have heard. . . seemed a little surprised that I'd slept through it - I must have been REALLY tired!

He asked if I thought it could have been racially triggered. I must have looked shocked because then he mentioned there was something on 'the blog' about it. hmmmmmm.

Wanted to know if anyone was upset with the owners about anything (that I knew of) etc, I said, "I know people don't much appreciate the hummer parked on the rocks, but he should be getting fined for that." Of course, the hummer in the rocks - not so concerning to the investigator. . .

LOVE.....thats really no surprise that an investigator would want to overlook the obvious reason..."pissed off neighbors for parking in the rocks"...to go for the more "sensational story"....racism in america...just sickening

the same investigator asked me questions too.  i gave him a few details and he did seem concerned.  he said the device was inside the car, that was a new fact.  Other than that, i don't know if he got any leads.  Does anyone know the Hummer guy?  has he spoken to anyone about this incident?
