Any info about if there was anyone living in the home that burned in Velazquez Dr.  How are they?

What started the fire?

The fire trucks are leaving the area, but I didn't see any ambulance, were are the owners?  Did anyone live there?

It looks like someone lives there, but I am not 100% sure. Looks like there is a car axle in the garage. I am interested in finding out what started it. The blaze was pretty strong last night and the entire roof it pretty much gone.

This is to close to my liking btw, its only like 5 houses down from me.

A mother Janice (jan-EESE)  and her 2 yr old son lived in the home.  They were at the grocery store when the fire happened.  As you all know, the home is destroyed, and she has nothing.

I am accepting any items people have to donate.  I have her phone number and have already given her some stuff.   Here is a list I have put together; I also sent it around to  the women at church and have started to receive donations.  At this time, if you have furniture you are interested in donating let me know, but I am not 'housing' it.  Once she has a place to stay arrangements can be made.

List:

Toiletries:
Soap
Shampoo
Conditioner
Razor
Toothbrush/paste
Mascara
Lip gloss
Etc

Linen:
Towels
Blankets
Baby-size blankets
Sheets
Wash clothes
etc

Kitchen:

Hand towels
Forks, Spoons, Knives
Service knives
Wooden spoons
Can Opener
Hand mixer
Mixing bowls
Baking pans
Oven mitts
Stove ware
etc

Clothing:
Women’s 9 ½ shoe
Women’s 12 pant
Women’s Large top
Boys 3T

Misc:

Toddler toys
Slippers
Comfort snacks

Etc

E-mail me to make arrangement for me to pick-up, or to get my address for drop-off.  I am in Savano

I don't know the family's situation as of now, but besides the help our community can offer, the American Red Cross also provides disaster service assistance to victims of fire.  Services include food, clothing, emotional support, and replacement of medical health related items.

their hotline number is 1-800-842-7349

She is in touch with the Red Cross. She is looking to lease to own a home in the area (Calabria) which means she will need some furniture basics. I have someone donating a twin mattress and box springs but have no frame. I also have a crib mattress but no crib. I did check with her and her son does still use a crib. Someone else is also donating a dresser. I'm guessing there are other people (family, etc) helping, but she is very grateful for all anyone can give.

The fire dept arrived at about midnight. I went to bed before they left. When we looked out the window we could see flames jumping HUGELY higher than the house itself - it is amazing the neighbor's houses were not also damaged.

According to her, arson is suspected, the fire orginated at the back of the house and it appears to have been started in the SHOWER. She has a restraining order against her husband. She said he is suspected. Which makes me wonder what the INS company will cover if his name is on the MTG, which I suspect it is. . . she did say INS was helping "some".

Its scares me that I did not hear anything, our kids woke us up and I look out the window and see all the chaos and a house in flames. Its was a blessing that they were not home.

where exactly was the fire? we went walking our dog yesterday, we're in barcelona and we went around the block and didn't see anything on velazquez dr, unless it's over in the community next to the school?

i'll see what we can do. im sure we can come up with things we can donate too.

Charann, it is in the neighborhood behind(next to) the school. I am still collecting.

Also, I've been wondering if people would be interested in donating money for things like furniture, washer and dryer, etc.   I don't think I can set an account up for her - I don't even know her last name for certain, and she is out of town right now, but someone else has handed me a check (actually written to me - eek)  If people decide I am honest enough, I am willing to handle donations.  If not (which I completely understand) then maybe there is another way we can determine to have donations for things like this.

Really, she should have at LEAST a couple of bean bags (couch would be better), a fridge (if the house doesn't come with one), a washer and dryer, and a table with chairs.

love@hm, we have a table and chairs we can donate. It's an Ashley set with a table and six chairs. It's solid wood and is in decent condition. The table looks great, but our puppy got to all six of the chairs. LOL. They are not unsafe, it's just cosmetic. I'm sure a little sanding and some stain would make them look good. The set is less than 2 years old, we just have no room for it anymore since we want to bring our other set in from the garage.

Here's a link to the set: http://ashleyfurniture.com/Showroom/LargeProductImage.aspx?PageId=Showroom&SetDomTab=2&ItemNo=D228-25

PM me if you are interested. We can hold onto it until they find a new home if needed.

We also have a wood TV stand from IKEA she can have. It has been sitting in the garage for a couple of months, but is in great condition. We don't have a TV to donate, but this stand can hold up to a 32" TV.

Also, we would like to help with a washer and dryer set and fridge if the house she finds does not include those. Once she finds a new home please let us know if she needs those items and we will make arrangements to help.

UPDATE:

I took an inventory yesterday. We now have plenty of bedding, dishes, toys, hygiene. I have offers of enough furniture to allow comfort. Janice will call me today to make arrangements. I spoke to her last night, and she will be living in her boss' guest house for the time being. It is my understanding it is not furnished, so all of this stuff really does help. I do not plan on collecting after today (rush, I know) Janice will likely be ready to take posession of everthing Thursday.

There are a few things I still do not have, if you are considering donating, items off of THIS list would be helpful:

Women's Business Attire: Size 12
Women's shoes: Size 9 1/2
Women's socks/nylons

Toddler socks

tupperware (gladware, etc)
cleaning supplies (windex, toilet scrub, sponges, dishsoap, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, etc)
Broom
Mop
Kitchen towels (I've received some, but could handle more)
garbage cans
garbage bags
misc supplies: ziplocks, foil, plastic wrap, paper towels

twin bed FRAME (I have the mattress and box springs waiting to be picked up)
Crib (I have the mattress)

tupperware (gladware, etc)

I have some sitting in the garage brand new. Bought them on special from fry's a while ago.

Let me know where to drop them. (I just hope the wife hasn't used them yet)

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

Cool! She is coming on Sat to pick stuff up.  I'm assuming you have figured me out, and know where to find me.  On Sunday's there has been lots of singing, but now we are back at the church!
