Alert | | This makes me laugh. When we moved to Maricopa in 2002 we had to shop in Chandler or Ahwatukee and really did need a cooler. When they built the Basha's, I was so used to the drive I would still shop at the Fry's on Alma School and German because I liked it better. Once Fry's opened here I was in heaven. We moved out here to Tortosa in March of '06 and I suddenly realized how spoiled I had become in Rancho El Dorado. I was such a baby about driving the six miles to Fry's. Now I don't even give it a second thought and I enjoy the peace of being free of all the activity associated with the stores.

Alert | I had heard rumors to such. Do you know if it be a Super? I've never been fond of Walmart; that's mostly because of the dirty stores and lack of customer service. But it sure beats driving to town if they have what I need right here. We are really moving up in the world!
Yeah...I'm pleased to be away from the conjestion and activity of the stores in town as well. The only conjestion we have out here is twice a day M-F with the school! LOL! | | Nancy

Alert | speaking of the school, does the crosswalk sign really need to be in the middle of the turn lane? Why can't it be closer to one side or the other of the middle turn lane? Some of us live down that street and the people behind us get angry when we are trying to turn into our homes.
I guess i'm never happy lol

Alert | OK, I know the natural blonde in me is alive and well, but isn't commerical land the same as retail land? So, if the land on the corner is set up to be commerical, doesn't that mean, it's set up for grocery stores too?
Drove by this weekend...what's going on behind the school? Saw a chain fence up, but didn't see anything, wasn't sure if it's part of the school or something else.

Alert | | My wife and I have talked several times since we moved into an Elite home in Valencia (at Tortosa), and we have yet to find a single thing that we were unhappy with. We even purchased a spec home and found all of the work to be outstanding. Doors and cabinets close nicely, windows are smooth, the constuctions seems at least to be of the utmost. We did spend about a year looking around before we decided to make the move, of all of the homes we saw, Elite seems to have the nicest features built in, just little things that we didnt see anywhere else that made the homes seem just a bit nicer like little nooks and spaces. The simple fact that my house is backed by the reservation, with no back neighbor was one of the primary reasons I bought, plus they have thought about the people living there, two story homes are moved forwards, giving us a feeling of real privacy, and the lots were some of the biggest we saw for this price! I would do it again, twice.

Alert | | Thank you, we are just so happy to be down here finally, we came down so many times as the whole place was going up, everytime it just felt like the right place to be. I know I see alot of complaints on the foutain and sniper nest (years is definately too long to finish them of course) but everytime I drive into our little circle there I just love the palm trees and the center median, the park, its just a great looking community. Feels like home.

Alert | I completely agree CB...this is home. For the first time in about 15 years, it feels nice to come home, not come to an apartment that I'm renting, but to come home to home. We had also looked at homes for a couple of years, and nothing felt right. This was the home we kept thinking about. We loved that Elite was the only builder that was considered energy star certified, we loved that the floor plan gave us the chance to turn a 4 bedroom home into a 3 bedroom home, increasing the sizes of the rooms. We just wanted to be here.
yeah, the drive to North Phoenix everyday is less to be desired. 347 is a pain, there's really nothing to do here on a saturday night, you have to drive 25 miles to the nearest walmart or target, but, this is home. I like that we're away from things. I like that I-10 isn't right next to us, I love that we are surrounded by reservation land, because this means, our area will not grow uncontrollably. This is home. Maybe one day the fountain will be on daily and the tower will be finished, but, that's just the icing on the cake. Our home is our home....nothing will ever tarnish that.

Alert | Here here, plus the Tortosa sign went up....we felt like we were being welcomed...right after we moved in! I had to go back on Friday to finishing cleaing our previous apartment, it was just a really emotional moment realizing that we were done with that tiny box, we had a lot of ups and downs getting into a place and to finally realize it was over it was like months of weight just fell off of both of us.
An aside, do we have a dust policy in Maricopa that anyone knows about, I know in Chandler and Gilbert developers were required to water the properties so that dust problems didnt kick up like we had the last couple of days...couldnt even see around us this morning on the way out of town??? Who do we call to get them to water these lots and cut down our dust?
I keep trying to figure out what area you guys are talking about for the commercial there. South of Honeycutt at the intersection, but on the east or west side of the road?

Alert | i remember cleaning up our apartment, it was also emotional for me. it was the first apartment we were living in together, we picked it out together, got the furniture for it, it truly was a bunch of firsts in that apartment. so, packing it up, while we were soooo happy to be moving into our own home, it was a bit emotional. it's sorta hard to just pack up and move on after 5 years in 1 location, but we always knew that apartment wasn't meant to be permanent. so i completely understand.
but the day we went back to the apartment to give the keys and do the final walk thru, that was just the best day, cause once we were done there, we going HOME. now when we say, we're going home, we truly are going home to our home.
I think the thing that made me the happiest was doing laundry at midnight on a saturday. since our apartment we were the 2nd floor, i couldn't really do anything at night for fear the neighbors would hear, cause the floors were not exactly soundproof. so to do laundry or the dishwasher late at night....oh, that was great to me!
the area for the commerical is actually where the fire station and HOA trailer is. that area is the area that is to be used for commerical use, but it seems no one knows exactly what is going to be done there. i was told a bashas was going in, someone else heard safeway, someone else heard a church...the builders basically don't know so instead of just saying, they dont' know what will go in there, they tell everyone a different story. but that's the commerical area.

Alert | We spent the last 2.5 years living over our managers apartment, you can imagine the pain in the arse that was. We have still not got used to walking fully on our feet when we are at home, still tippy toeing around....
Well thank you very much for the information, that is what we were looking for, seemed like an odd way for that main entrance to sit if that big area was going to be part of the community.
So the next thing to say is our HOA should start looking at what we can do to secure that area as an open space instead, I can see how that would be a much nicer part of our community than a retail center of that size. I think I will start a new thread to see what people say............talk at you later!
