Alert | | How did we get so lucky here in Tortosa to have Hickmans, the stockyards and the tire recycle plant all not 5 miles away? Plus our entry way looks so ahhhhhhhhhh! 2nd class. <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/unsure.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Unsure' align='absmiddle'>

Alert | The entrance will be done soon ( hopefully) and it looks a lot better than when I moved in When you moved here Hickmans, the stockyards and the tire recycling plant were all here already. It is not like that was a surprise to anyone moving here to Tortosa.

You were given a copy of and read every page of your CC & Rs right?
Buying your home is most likely going to be your single biggest purchase in your life, so obviously you would have done your research first before making a decision to buy your home?
Of course you would have visited the area, drove around the sub-division, asked local opinions etc before committing to buying, so all these "features" you mention are of course no surprise to you.....so can you explain what you really meant with your post?
If your renting, I assume you saw the house's location before agreeing to a lease also? | | My favorite Dictator

Alert | | The tire plant is not coming back into business anyways so you can mark that one off of your list.

Alert | Lady, when you first thought of moving here, did you not drive around the area to see what was exactly around? That is the one thing we did, we drove around, knew about Hickmans, heard about the Ethanol plant and knew about the tire plant, so to be honest, if you moved to Tortosa (or any place for that matter) without doing some research, then sadly, you made the mistake of moving to an area without knowing about what the surroundings were. Even if we didn't move to Maricopa and we stayed in the valley, we still would have done our research. Sorry you are not happy...but that's why it pays to do the research.
And to be honest, the smell isn't as bad as you make it out to be. We still keep our windows open, but there are days when it's bad. But out of 30 days, only maybe 5 days are bad, and I even think that's too high, maybe more like 3 days where the smell is bad. So, try not to let things bother you that you should have researched about and just enjoy your home. Eventually, you won't even notice some of the things.

Alert | When I bought out here, 2.5 yrs ago. It was not possible to even get to this area because no roads were available. No I never researched , if a hazardous fire from a tire plant was possible, Nor did i know it was even there. Not having lived near a place where dead chickens and the stink from the poo was It hardly entered my mind, I also was told the feed lots were to be moved.Plus the front entry way is certainly not like it was pictured to be.Who said the tire plant is to be closed permanently? If they comply they can open again. I wish we could have a count on all the people who researched the area and expected all of the above...

I agree. There are far too many posts that say "you should have researched". You know what you can't predict everything and you won't find every issue until you actually live somewhere.

Alert | I think the research should have been done by the BUILDERS and then by the REALTORS.
If the realtors had done their homework, they wouldn't have sold any houses and selling no houses = no $$$. Shame on them. How would a prospective buyer have known about these places when they are new to an area. Realtors just like to sell houses, never mind what's located where the buyer can't see any unpleasant surroundings. In fact they will take you the long way around to avoid exposing unpleasant sights. JMHO Can't wait for the realtors to jump all over me for this on! No matter, I'm from back East and have tough skin | | Love Comes To The Forest

Alert | | i agree with most of the posters that some research needed to be done before purchase...that being said not everything can be known fully unless you actually live in a location permanently...and even if the roads were not paved out to the area...people were getting to that location somehow dont you think?...so thats not a good excuse in my opinion....anyhow..all excuses or "reasons" aside...buying a home is a serious commitment...all you can do is make do and if it bothers you that much...good luck trying to sell your home | | *formerly known as inyrfce2* Senior Member Posts: 797 Joined: Dec 2006

Alert | | lady.....we came out to look for a house in september 2006 and moved in march of 2007....if roadways is your reason for not being able to traverse the area to do research...maybe you should have waited to choose a home where you did...or borrowed someones 4X4.... | | *formerly known as inyrfce2* Senior Member Posts: 797 Joined: Dec 2006

Alert | I guess I am a silly girl. If I was planning to invest 100-200K into a house, I would have done everything I could have to research the area, even if it meant, walking to see what was around me. If the only way into Tortosa was by 4x4, why would you buy here, knowing that getting in and out wouldn't be easy in the first place???
Plus, back in 2005, the tire plant was already here and Hickmans was here since 2003, so I just find it amazing that someone could move into an area, invest so much money into a home and then realize, they should have asked questions. We knew we would be near the cows, Hickmans, the ethanol plant, pretty much everything. We also asked questions like, "what will happen on this land over here?". I guess everyone is different.
Personally, the smell doesn't bother me. maybe cause i grew up in farm country back in PA, so im used to the smell, but even if it does smell, i'm not going to let that cause me to be upset about my home. I love my home, so im happy.
