Are BBQ's on the front entrance of a house allowed by the HOA?. It seems to be a fire hazard, not to mention how tacky it looks. That is why there are backyards. Is that unreasonable?

You can report it to the HOA and they will advise you if it is allow per your governing documents. But I would have to state that it is not but without knowing your's I couldn't tell for sure.

Leave them alone, so what they want to drink beers on their plastic chairs and BBQ in the front.
Maybe they want to BBQ and invite people over and get to know their neighbors. If it bohers you so much just bake a cake and take it over to them and discuss it like good ol neighbors.

OMG, we saw that today getting the mail. Seriously, that is tacky. Plus, if Maricopa is anything like Scottsdale, not only is it a violation of HOA rules, which I just read in the bylaws, but it's also a city ordinance as well. You can't have a BBQ so many feet from a building. At least that was Scottsdale, but I would assume most cities have some rules about that. I would call the HOA. Actually, I will call the HOA about this, cause you know, between the parking on the streets all over the place and now a BBQ in the front...something needs to get done finally.

Does anyone know who's cars those are that park on the Toledo by the mailboxes? Come home from work and there are always 1-2 cars parked by the corner, but yet, all the driveways are empty. If you need that much space that you need to park on the street, you should have bought a house with a 3 car garage! OK, I needed to vent that out!

How exactly do you not have a BBQ "so many feet from a building" in the front yard and not violate the exact same law if it's in the back? Are people expected to stand at the furthest point from their home, close to the cinder block wall to BBQ?

HOA's are just stupid.

I"m gonna get a little rude here---IF YOU DON"T LIVE IN TORTOSA, DON'T WORRY ABOUT WHAT WE COMPLAIN ABOUT!!!!!

Is there a chance the people with the BBQ are having their backyard landscaped and wanted to BBQ?? I'd give them a day or 2 then call about it.

The red head is BACK!! (and still mouthy)

Think about it. In a backyard, you can move a BBQ as far away from your house and you can. You're not going to have your BBQ in front of your door, directly in front of your door. Most people, do have them at least somewhat in the middle of their yards. This home, if it's the home that I believe Linda is talking about, has their BBQ right in front of their windows. If anything should happen, the inside of their home would not stand a chance, as opposed to the backyard, where again, most people keep it in the middle of the yard, you at least have a chance to fight a fire for example, before it got to the house. Most cities, do have ordinances saying, you can't have something like this so many feet from your home. Personally, it makes sense. The ordinances are not HOA rules, they are city/county/state laws and if reported to the HOA and the city/county/state does have this as a law, then by legal reasons, the HOA must notify the owner of this.

I'll give them a few days, you could be right, they could have just placed it there while their backyard is being worked on, but if not, it does need to be moved.

YAWN

this is right up there with mandatory winter grass and type of trees to plant.

It will never be Scottsdale, folks. You cant make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

And every now and then we should have a tire plant fire soes we can evacuate the area.

Come over to Alhambra Street. We got a house with the little red brickroad and wooden stakes for landscaping. These people have 2 cars that look like they are from the junkyard 1 nice car in the driveway that seems to need work on since the fellow is always out front doing mechanic work. Now this is tacky looking

First of all, whether anyone posting in this thread lives in Tortosa or not is irrelevant. This is a public message board and anyone can post in any thread with their own opinion.

Next, I have my grill (not called a "BBQ" where I come from) in my back yard, but it's on the patio, not 10 feet from my back door. I have no plans to move it further into the yard and stand in the hot desert sun while cooking on it.

Lastly, HOAs are not necessary. People need to mind their own business and stop acting like Gladys Cravitz. Neighborhoods all over the country exist just fine without the total dictatorship of a bunch of busy-bodies telling them how their house should look.

We heat our house with several propane open flame non vented 40000 BTU heaters. As long as we keep a window open a little there is no problem. As a kid, we had open flame natural gas stoves for heat. There was never a problem. If you have a Jenn Air bbq atachemnt on your stove its the same thing.

Whats the big deal? Everyones front of the house must be generic? If you are worried about resale value, see the thread on 90K new houses they cant sell.

Some people will do anything to get elected!

I think Char may be referring to the city ordinance regarding grills and living in an apartment. I know living in Chandler if you got caught using a grill on your patio you could get a fine. I don't think that's the issue here. It's the tackiness of having a grill on the front porch. It clearly should be in the back yard I think.

Go Broncos!!!!

there is NO need for a grill in the front yard. its an eyesore and trashy to the neighborhood. Its not about trying to be like "scottsdale" because others feel that something that belongs in the backyard, is located out front. Why not leave plastic pools in the front yard? Better yet lets put a childs swing set in the front too! Lets top that and put a dog house next to the garage too!!

Come on people, use some common sense here! You dont have to be that smart to know what goes out front and what goes out back...This is why HOA exist because some people are NOT smarter than a 5th grader!!!

If you need help in what belongs out front:
Plants, Trees, Park bench, Grass... and MAYBE a car once and awhile...NOT a flippin' grill!

LOL...Thanks Darin. You hit it right on the nail.

Anyway, if I did not want to be told what I can do on the outside of my home, then I would have purchased a home where there is no HOA. As simple as that. I rather pay a fee and make sure that where we live and invested money is going to be kept clean and respectful.

I do live in Tortosa and most of the areas look pretty well kept. Yes there are some who don't take care of their yards as others, but c'mon people get a life. I for one have a very nice yard, but if I choose to entertain in my garage or my front yard that is my business. Maybe some people don't want to BBQ in the dirt. Maybe if you all quit hiding behind your closed drapes and blinds and come out and meet people you wouldn't judge a book my its cover.

Its ONE thing to entertain for a few hours..its another thing to leave the crap in the front yard for an extended stay. I dont stay behind close door and we are out and converse with the neighborhoods all the time...

..and I know for a fact, that some of these houses DO have a backyard with grass and gravel. Thats no excuse.

Nobody is telling people what to do...if I host a party or a get together, its held in my BACKYARD to keep it private and have consideration for others in the neighborhood.

to those who comment that HOA's are pains in the butt...i agree...however, that being said....these people knew they were moving into an HOA...they knew there were standards that needed to be met to not get violation letters...and have neighbors calling the HOA to report them....we expect the rules to be followed by all and not those who choose to follow them and make our streets and neighborhoods look like south central L.A. or some other ghetto...if for some reason you choose to BBQ in the front yard...by all means have a good time...but dont leave your BBQ out front...also take your trash cans behind the gate when they are not out at the curb to be picked up....i agree...some of the rules are pretty tacky....but we all signed on the dotted lines...so follow the rules or please put a for sale sign up in your yard and get out.....have a nice day =)~~

It dumbfounds me that some people are so ignorant and careless of others but themselves. I mean damn, if you want to trash your home....be my guess, just do it behind your closed doors. Dont ruin everyone elses dream of owning a home, equity in years to come and pride of ownership because your a knucklehead!
