Now this is the bad part of having our own police department! Yes, I am very glad that we are large enough to have a police department instead of the sheriff, but we aren't large enough for them to be busy yet

We don't have night patrols yet, PD is only on until I think they said 4pm because they just don't have the manpower, must have been a sheriff you saw, Karen

wont be long before we get those stop sign cameras that they are using in LA right now. Roll through a stop sign, and 2 weeks later you roll out the pocket book and pay your fine.

I saw that cop sitting there too! I told my fiance but he doesnt come home till around 4pm so he doesnt see them as much as I do. I always come to a full stop even if the person next to me is trying to wave me on, I know what Im doing...I always count to 3 in my head then go...thats what your suppost to do right? I dont hate that theres cops, but I am worried for my other half who likes to "california stop." If only the sign said Yeild to traffic instead

Bye Bye Maricopa!

I think the Stop signs at Harmon and at White-Porter (or whatever that street is) were put in with future traffic in mind, it's easier and cheaper to start off with stop signs then to try to get everyone to change a habit.
Good example of this was in Eugene, OR, we had an off ramp off the freeway that had a stop sign and with a major increase in traffic the state, in it's infinite wisdom, decided to put a stop light there instead of reworking the off ramp like the city wanted to do. Well, for 4 months after the light was installed there were MORE accidents there because the direction that had no stop sign wasn't used to stopping there and would run the red light.

Nope - they were there again today - one maricopa car and one sheriff car at the corner of porter and smith-enke. Today looked more like a pow wow than anything - they were sittin in their cars opposite directions and talking thru the winders.

I was gonna get a cellphone picture but didn't think they would appreciate that much, so I kept on driving

MPD was sitting outside the entrance to Tortosa again today. Saw them there yesterday morning at the same time. They are watching the stop sign.

O.k this is NOT to disrespect the PD, But there is nothing better to do than sit outside of Tortosa and watch a stop sign??? I KNOW there are other problems of greater importance!

Stalking stops signs is the only thing that MPD's training program has covered thus far!! I did a california stop in front of a MPD cop yesterday, thought for sure i was going to get stoped. Guess its good to know the local popo's!!

You guys are too funny. I'm not so concerned about the rolling stops. There's very little cross traffic as of yet off these streets. I am concerened about the lady in the drop top little white piece of crap car that passed me going up honeycutt, when she was at least 4 car lengths behind me. Then she turned in front of me onto Porter, and proceeded to pass another car by making the pass in the middle turning lane. Low and behold, we all arrived at the traffic light at Smith-Enke, and JWP at the same time. Then I watched her continue to weave in and out of traffic going out of town. The crazy thing is, she wasnt really driving that fast, just had to do that extra 2 MPH that we werent doing. Silly people.

P.S. We are very new to the community here, and new to Arizona as a whole. Could someone please explain to me the meaning of this "sniper tower"?

When most of us moved here the tower leading to the communty was just a grey cement building and looked like the towers the prisons use for guarding the fences--the place the "snipers" sit in to shoot the escaping prisoners. It has since had the stones added to it and IF they follow the original plans (and no one knows if they will) it should look pretty nice, kinda like an upscale prison tower(IMHO). For now Tortosa's "claim to fame" is the sniper tower
