Can someone please tell me who is responsible for the weeds in common areas? And who is repsonsible for weeds on lots with empty homes? I am tired of getting fined for one damn weed in my front yard, when I see these weeds that need their own zip code all over the community. When I say common areas, I am referring to the areas outside of corner lots, outside of the wall, up and down the sidewalk and near mailboxes. Who's responsibility is that?

I know for sure if you have a cornor lot with a mailbox the owner of the lot/house is responsible for the weeds and other trash issues. Whoever owns the lot with empty houses (the builder or investors) they are responsible for the upkeep. Other commons areas would be our lovely HOA. Are you just getting warnings or actual fines?

I have gotten fines. I rent a home here in Tortosa, and my landlord has been very understanding. We got fined 6 times for weeds that finally were determined not to be on our property. But as I was walking/driving around the neighborhood I noticed many weeds in places that I wasnt exactly sure who was responsible for the area. I can look out my front window and see weeds lined up all along the sidewalk where the mailboxes are. I just cant belive that the HOA would send me a fine/warning for one weed, and not take care of the common areas. UNREAL!!

Nobody has to complain. The HOA gets you when they are doing their rounds. We've been fined for weeds a couple times when the weeds weren't even in our yard. My wife just kept writing letters and calling, and they just finally let us know that we no longer owe those fines. It only took about 6 months. LOL

AuntieAnn, the HOA does go down that street and has tried getting them to move their stupid trailer. They use the excuse that Homelife told them they could park it there and it's the whole reason they bought here. First of all, Homelife is not responsible for our HOA, secondly the CC&Rs clearly state this is a violation and third, we all know the sales agents will "tell" us anything to get us to buy. If it isn't in writing, they don't have a leg to stand on. Look at all the ridiculous things people have heard will be out here. I'm hoping this new management company will be more effective. Based on the fact they charge $30 for each payment received past the 15th of the month, I would imagine they will be aggresive. I would much rather get an occasional weed notice (by mistake of course) then live with some of the crap that's been going on around here. Have you seen the house on Toledo with the freaking copy machine on their front porch? It's been there at least a month and that's just since I've noticed it.

You are too funny! Can the HOA just keep fining these people (trailer and copier) every time they see it and drive the point home that this is not tolerated! I really hate that we have NO control over anything to do with our HOA yet, or do we and I don't know. Has there been meetings or elections that I am unaware of?

We were contacting the HOA regularly with violations we just couldn't overlook. Many were addressed, including one at the home with the copier. I'm waiting a little bit to give this new company some time to check things out. We did have someone come and remove the weeds from all the vacant home yards last week. All but the one by the mailboxes and I think that was skipped because the next door neighbor had cleared the front portion of the yard because he was tired of how it made his house look. Regardless of whether we control the HOA, they are still required to notify us of annual meetings (something the old company never did). I look forward to them opening an office out here so I can at least know that my concerns will be heard.

I live on the corner lot and were responsible for the mailbox and the stop sign post which is bs because people leave there trash on the floor and there yard sale signs up for ever!! Its hard enough to pick all these damn weeds in the front yard and they seem to love the mailbox for some reason...If I would of known HOA was going to get on us this much for the mailbox I wouldnt have moved on the corner because its a pain. I also agree its fustrating seeing alot of homes that are accupied even growing trees of there weeds. Also...now that Im venting! Solicitors should not be able to leave things in doors if theres no answer that should be considered littering because I pick up "landscaping/ bug removal" fliers almost as much as I do weeds.

Bye Bye Maricopa!

I've often wondered if that copy machine is plugged in and works?

I'd be happy to bring my own copy paper... a big copy machine like that would be very helpful in my work from home job... and so conveniently located!!

As for weeds... you should get that one weed killer put down that you only have to spray it once a year or whatever it is. I had that put down in my front yard last month and I've yet to pull a weed. My mother in law uses it at her house and she never ever has weeds!

Do you have a name brand, or where you bought this miracle weed killer/preventer?

Got mine from Ace here in town. I don't remember the brand...may have been Roundup, but was an extended control. I sprayed all spring and haven't really been out there since.

It's called pre-emergent and a friend in the villages just got a flier for it and pest control.

I had this put down before I moved in and although it has helped quite a bit the people that did it really didn't do a great job. The one I had done in Chandler took care of everything except bermuda grass.

Now that I've had work done on my back yard and gravel was brought in I'll probably check this company out.

The red head is BACK!! (and still mouthy)

tempting i believe most of us in tortosa were told a pre-emergent was to be put down before they put in the landscaping in our front yards....or at least thats what someone told me....however based on the amount of weeds that i had pop up in my front yard between mar-june id say they skipped putting this down
