Alert | I have noticed lately that people are back to putting flyers on the mailboxes. I really dislike this. It is messy, trashy and against the HOA rules. Please just advertise like everyone else; NOT on mailboxes. If anyone that does put ads on the mailboxes wonders where there flyer had gone to, I have removed it. It just becomes litter later when no one comes to take it down.

Alert | | also, i was told by the postal worker it's against the postal "rules" and it's actually against the law. not many people know this, i think they wouldn't put up signs w/their phone #'s on it if they did. the ONLY reason i know this is b/c i went to put up a "found dog" sign and they told me it's against the law. | | this time i want a smart president!

Alert | | You go AuntieAnn!!! I too have been removing them from the mailboxes sometimes daily in our part of Tortosa. Personally, I can't imagine who would leave their child with someone using construction paper fliers written in magic marker! Thank you for helping to keep the community litter free.

Alert | i don't know if i would go that far. like i said, i don't think many people know it's against the law to put things on the mailboxes. also, many people don't have the extra $ to put an ad in the paper (especially daycare workers who get paid very little.) anyway, it technically is a good way to advertise for free. i'm sure if someone just called the # on the flyers and let the people know it is a "no-no", they would take it down right away. also, maybe the daycare provider is trying to keep her daycare in the tortosa community and didn't want it in a paper. i think there are a lot of "ifs" to be taken into consideration before hanging this lady. maybe you wouldn't take your child to a daycare that had an ad written on construction paper with marker on the side of a mailbox, but maybe the daycare provider was just trying to make it seem casual and light and cute...ya know, because kids write on construction paper with marker. a good friend of mine never thought she would be one to put her child into a home daycare like that and she has been pleasantly suprised at how loving and nurting the in home daycare is. i'm not saying they are all good. and i'm not saying they are all bad. but, i don't think she meant to tick anyone off and i'm sure she just doesn't know to not put it on the mailbox. there is a different post on tortosa's page that talks about how great it is that the tortosa posts gets so many more responses than any other community, and how whether be it complaining or looking out for one another, we care about our community. well, the way to care about this community would be to step up and just call the number and ask she remove her post (or whoever else posts) from the mailboxes. it would be the neighborly thing to do. i'm not trying to disagree with you about the mailbox clutter, as i do think it's not attractive, but instead of getting up in arms about it, let's first try to talk to each other. maybe i'm just feeling the love because i've had a glass of wine. but that's my two cents. | | this time i want a smart president!

Alert | I did think about calling the lady and asking her to take down the flyers, but my husband thought it would be better to just take them down. Some people do not respond well to being asked to do something they do not want to do On the other note, I run an in-home daycare and have never put an ad on the mailbox. I know how much we make and I can think of at least three places you can put an ad for free ( not on a mailbox). Also, when I started the thread I did not say anything about the daycare lady; there are other flyers from landscapers, tree trimmers, water companies, ect. that are just as annoying. I know what you are trying to say: talk to each other first, but in this instance I just wanted to put up a general warning.

Alert | Evidently, the people who have home based business' don't need them. Like child care and prostitutes.
