If the number of people gets too large, i can't use my house.  Since it's getting hot out and there aren't lights at the park, that's out.

I could probably do 8 people comfortably at my house.  Any other suggestions on location?

I wish I could be there...but Thurdsays are never possible due to my second job (the one I need to afford our outrageous HOA fees ! ha! ha!)

How can I stay in the loop and also help out if unable to make the meetings?

Also, do you guys really think our HOA needs to be hosting brunches and doing valentine breakfasts? I mean really, why can't they stick to their jobs and delvier on the services that we pay for!  We want green grass, curbs that are not broken for months, landscaping at the entrance of our community, rules (ie: weeds that are 4 ft tall) to be enforced, a fountain that doesn't look like a bad sprinkler! Give me a break!

Don't get me wrong, events are nice, but let's get our priorites in place! Ifg they can't fix a 12 inch section of curbing, can our HOA really afford to throw a freakin brunch?  Ok, venting over.

Well, I've had some choir rehearsals in my house, and if we have lines of chairs instead of a circled group I can fit about 20 people. My kids would be home which makes it a bit more difficult, but we could try putting them to bed a bit early with some books. It likely wouldn't be perfect, and I DON'T want to be in charge in any way shape or form.

I would love to come to the meeting too! Thrs. @ 7pm May 1st , but where? I have a very small house (yet WEED free) or I would host. I would like to have a voice in a group setting because I think all the individual calls to the HOA are not heard loudly enough. I want to meet the people who actually care about the community.

Ok, i count 8 people that said they could meet on that date.  That sounds like a good turnout for now.  For those that are concerned that they may miss something, we'll take good notes and post what we discussed and our progress on this forum.  Probably under the heading "HOA Group meeting May 1st".  So, why don't we do this:  we can meet at my house at 7:00 that night.  If it gets too crowded we can move to the back yard.  If it stays small-ish, I can rearrange my living room to accomodate everyone.

Sound ok?  Let me know.  I'll check back later tonight to see what we're deciding.  Thanks everyone!

I have a question....

At the risk of sounding negative...why is it that so many people are willing to put out the time and energy for this forum, but when the HOA was looking for committe members who would work side by side with the HOA Board, no one was interested.

Just curious because this would of given you the insight and information you are looking for.

I believe in time this committee will be working with the HOA ladies. I also believe there are some things going on there that we need to be able to look at as homeowners and not have them leading the discussion. Having them point out what everything is is counterproductive because they are not having our best interests as heart - no matter what they say.

We need to be educated and working together - THEN we need to work with them.

CT-
I did call and talk to the HOA ladies to see about helping out with the community watch and one of the committee ( because I felt I could learn a thing or two about how an HOA runs), but I was told that they are full and do not need anymore volunteers with the commumities and that there is no community watch in place until they meet a certain number of interested parties.
I was told that as a homeowner I could come to the meetings, but they are at 5:30 on a Wednesday and I have children I watch until after 6pm. I am sure that is why alot of people can't do it. 5:30pm is a time that is hard to make for most people.

OK, my house is second from the end on Velazquez, 35621 West Velazquez.

Can someone bring the following?:

CC&Rs (current)

Financial breakdown of the HOA given out last summer

I'm going to be handing out name tags because i'm horrible with names.  We can have our login names also so we can put a name with a face making our interactions easier online.  My wife will be taking notes on what we discuss so we can post it up here in case anyone wants to know the status.  Hopefully this first meeting goes well and it's not total chaos.  lol.
