Am I the only one who can hear 100 geese outside my back yard?! LoL  Okay maybe not 100 but it sure does sound like it! It’s too dark to see. The walkway behind my home is flooded from last night’s storm so the geese are hanging out with us tonight I guess….Their pretty talkative…..

If you live by the wash or over by the new Butterfield elementary school, you are probably hearing the Colorado/or sonoran desert toads.

When it rains like it did thursday, they come out of the ground & make that wierd noise that sounds like ducks or geese. (I think it is their mating season??)

They are poisnous to dogs tho. If the dog catches it , the toad shoots off a poisonous venom that can harm or kill the dog.

I heard them last night & they were really loud! They are in the washes over by the new school.  Last year they were thick over there in the empty school lot during monsoon season!

You have got to be kidding me!?  I heard about the desert toads and I knew they were dangerous to dogs, but I had NO idea they quack or squawk like a duck/geese. Wow.......That just doesn't have the same impact anymore..... .  We had flash lights out looking for geese, so that must explain why we didn't see anything.......
Well thanks for explaining that, we had no idea.

Here's a site that has a recording of the sound of the toad...so you can imagine...if
a hundred or so are out in the wash......they make quite an odd sounding noise!

U will probably have to copy & paste the link.

I guarentee you were hearing the toads.  Last year they were so loud they kept me up.  Then the next day we found a toad and decided to go down to the wash and look around and found loads of tadpoles......well this year we were out of town during the first big storm of the year....but I've been on toad duty scowering the yard every night and found 3 now just in time.....gotta dog and they are totally poisonous.  Last year a friend of mine invested $600.00 on her dog due to the dog getting extremely sick after attacking a toad!

What are the bugs that make that really loud almost chirpping noise at night? It sounds like a cricket on crack, high pitch noise. It is so loud that I could hear it in my house with the TV and the fans on last night.

That loud clicking sound like a cricket I believe is called locus. I used to live in Austin, Texas, where it is humid, hot and sticky all summer long and when the locus start in the hot humid evenings, you can hardly hear yourself think. When I first heard it I asked a neighbor and thats how I know. Now that we 're into monsoon season with the humidty this is why you're hearing them now. They are ugly and huge.

I have not seen one yet but I hear them at night a lot. Usually they start right before the sun goes down. Yes, they are loud!
