Alert | | The HOA Board has agreed to a contract with Waste Management that reduces our trash pick-up to one day per week. All this is gaining us is the opportunity to recycle and an increase in our fee to this company. This moronic idea is going to cause so many needless problems. Why do they need to mess with things like this? If people want to recycle, they should be able to choose to do that on their own. | | They are who we thought they were!

Alert | I tried to switch my trash service from WM to the other trash pick up service (their name I can't remember right now). I wanted to change because the other service option offered one trash can and one recycle bin, and would pick up each once a week. That's how our service was in Chandler, and I loved it!
When I tried to change, the representative at the other trash service said that Villages is contracted with WM, and that they couldn't offer trash service to us.
So... are you saying that WM is now going to offer that kind of service in Villages? WM indicated at that time (about two weeks ago) that this service was offered in RED, but not VRED. | | Janelle --------- You can take the girl out of Kansas, but can't take Kansas out of the girl!

Alert | LOL!!
I am glad for the recycling. It forces me to get off my duff and actually do it.
As for the one day reduction, my family of 3 is ok with that. We don't produce that much trash, even with our infant's diapers! If we do, we have an extra trash bin for such emergencies.
I moved here knowing I would have an HOA and that fees may increase. I have never been to the clubhouse or pool.....the only amenity we have used is the tot lot by our house......one time.
I am not involved in the HOA nor do I vote, so who I am to throw stones at the decisions they have made? I've had friend on HOA boards and I would never subject myself to the kind of rudeness and unprofessionalism that some residents possess. I commend those who have stepped up to the plate only to be critized everytime they turn around.

Alert | I agree.
I have yet to be in an HOA where fees didn't increase over time. It's normal. I think there are people who are just naturally inclined to complain about everything. | | Apparently, the word for a male rooster is offensive. So fill in the blank.. ____ -a-doodle-do.

Alert | | What I wonder is if the WM collection fee was going to go up regardless of the change of service...if so, with the fact that we've added recycling as one day and refuse on the other, then the BOD may have come to an agreement with WM to not raise our fees as high as they wanted too. This is just my thought, not certain of the details of the decision. I was surprised when I saw the fee was going to go up, yet we were going to add recycling....why? Well good question, because recycling should be saving WM money rather than costing them more. They already have the trucks, they already have the cans but instead of using space in the landfill they should be getting $ for good clean recycling. Regardless I am glad to have recycling, I missed it. Now if we could only get some of the little recycling baskets for underneath our sinks (called apt. recyclers), these came in REAL handy and I loved them. Also...hopefully people are not just guessing that EVERYTHING can go into the recycling bin...although we think some things are recyleable, they aren't. So NO PLASTIC BAGS, or PLASTIC WRAP of any kind...NO GIFT WRAP...DOG FOOD BAGS..PIZZA BOXES..NO YARD TRIMMINGS...these type of things will contaminate a WHOLE LOAD and the whole thing will end up going to the landfill.

Alert | Ugh....people are idiots!
Today is Saturday and on my street one home has had their recycling bin sitting out since it was delivered. It is full of overflowing landscaping material......and that is not a recycle material. Then, while driving home today, I watched a woman come out of the house and dump her trashcan into the recycle bin and leave it on the street. I guess she just wants to be ready for when they pick up.....NEXT week!

Alert | | My husband is complaining right now that there is only 1 trash day. Recycle is great. What do you do when you have a rather large family or even a party? My husband is hauling trash to his work to put in the dumpster. Nothing like rotting food in the trash can! I have always heard to never put the stuff you cut off chicken in your disposal...now I have to wait till Monday. Alert | | Recycling is a good idea, but how they incorporated this into the community is stupid. They need to keep trash pick-up at 2 days per week and 1 day for recycling or make it once every other week. There were maybe 3 recycling cans out for pick-up this morning, most people don't recycle enough to fill up a can each week. Now we are left with overfilled trash cans and will have crap blowing all over the neighborhood. They have plenty of dumpsters over behind Fry's to dump excess trash into, please don't let your garbage blow around the neighborhood. | | They are who we thought they were!

Or there are alot of homeowners who don't care about recycling. Too bad for them. They should have read the letter that Waste Management sent with all the particulars about when recycling would start and what can/and cannot be recycled.

Opps. I must have missed that letter and put it in the trash without reading it along with the other ton of junk mail that I get everyday.
Is there info on the WM site about pickup days?

Alert | | I like the idea of recycling 1x a month and garbage still 2x a week. It has been 2 weeks since we received the recycling can and it isn't half filled...even with the newspapers every day. If people didn't read or keep the brochure on what needs to be recycled...then it is not going to work the way it should. "Stupid should hurt."
