Is it true that our HOA is going bankrupt? according to the article in todays arizona republic it states that the villages HOA is going to file bankruptcy. could someone please clarify the article. Maybe now would be the time to look for a different landscaping company who charges less, or cut back on other expences and why funds are not going into the reserve. So exactly how long has all of this been known and what exactly is the board trying to hide? http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2008/06/22/20080622fees0622.html

Time to have the security guard enforce that people using the courts/gym/pool have valid mag-cards.

I know its not a lot, but its a start.  If the losers don't pay their fees, then they don't get the amenities.

I agree with the landscapers too.

To clarify, its not that we are filing for bankruptcy, but rather we are "struggling to pay bills" at this point its time to tighten the belt up. Too bad if the splash pad is broke or other things are broke. Unless its a dire neccessity it should be left for now. Its also time to find some cheaper landscapers. Yea I'm sure the response will be but its the houses in foreclosure and I'm sure that is 90% of the issue. However if you can't or are having a hard time paying bill now, what comes next? I personally don't want to get an assessment landed on me and I'm sure others don't either. I would be curious as to why this has not been mentioned and how long have we known about this as we keep spending to fix things!

What happened to the comments? Oh well, I'll keep going as this is wrong. I have no problem speaking my mind about it and don't really care who's feet I step on.

Well umtech, fairy queen, durst or whatever you go by, the problem is not that you aren't afraid to step on toes, it''s that you never know what you are talking about.

That's right umtech.. just because YOU don't use the splash pad doesn't mean it's unnecessary...

Personally, I PAY my dues SPECIFICALLY to use MY amenities... My family uses the parks, the pool, the heated pool, the gym and the splash pad...

You want to be a part of the solution? Joint a committee.. maybe the budget committee.. other than that, your just another blowhard.. beating your chest and pointing at people...

I have yet to hear any solutions come from you.. and no, "cut costs" is not a clear and concise solution

Blah blah blah, we have tried to be part of the solution, unfortantly no one really cares it seems but a few of us, you join and try to get something changed or your point listened to but too many others want something different. Just like discussing issues at the board meetings, the fact you have to fill a paper out and be ok'd to discuss that is crazy. That is not any one's rules but this HOA's because if they don't like what you want to discuss it won't happen.  Why don't you join and you see what I"m talking about  and then you can get on my case.  I pay for amenities too, so don't think I don't care about the place. I also am realistic which is more than I can say for other's. If you have trouble paying bills well duh, do something about it right? who cares if we can't pay the bills.. whatever, won't hurt me any but I'll be the first one to say I told u so if we go into bankruptcy or receivership

BTW- missing the point, beating my chest you say? I'm not the one who wrote the article, nor am I the HOA president that said we are struggling to pay bills. So someone is blowing smoke if that is not the case. I just pointed the article out.

Peggy was just telling it straight.. would you rather she say "everything is great and foreclosure homes are not a problem"?... we are experiencing the same thing HOA's all around the valley are experiencing..

You are doing nothing more than internet posting and asking questions at the meetings.. BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION.. get involved.. are you a part of the Copa Cares clean-up this weekend? have you asked to be on a committee? do you attend block-watch meetings?

It's easy to play armchair quarterback.. get dirty.. get involved.. put in some elbow grease for your community..

we aren't near bankruptcy.. it was your wife that first mentioned the word.. the article doesn't state that nor imply that...

.. and I have done more than you know with regards to our HOA and our community...

You have NO clue what we have done or tried to do. With that said. You have your opinion and I have mine. Its that simple, I'm not asking you to agree nor will I agree necessarily with you. I corrected the statement about the bankruptcy or did you not read that? of course not you just zero in on one thing! As I stated struggling with bills is just that. So of course, spending 8k on plants is ok too? that is what I disagree with. Sorry you don't agree, I don't expect you to, But don't get on my case about doing stuff around here or not caring.

We did present the board with options on the Web that would have cost nothing to the HOA for 2 years but, they did not want to entertain the suggestion.   Our HOA board likes to spend money that we do not have......

you were scheduled to present your web option at a board meeting, last year, but you did not show up. It was on the agenda and a few people actually were there to listen to your proposed suggestion and ask questions, and I was one of them especially looking forward to it because you praised your idea on this site so vigourously, encouraged all to view your presentation and guaranteed your expertise, and I was eager to hear. Imagine my disappointment when you did not show up, did not even show up! Now you say that the board did not want to entertain the idea which is just not true, you did not show uip to present it to the community and to the board for a vote! How many times must I say it -- you talked the big talk but when the time was there for you to show what you really had, you did not show up. nowhere to be seen or heard.

Look, your so great what have you done? We presented the idea, several on the board had no interest in it and couldn't believe I could do it even with it in writing. I had and still have the board setup and several board members reviewed it including Peg. Unfortunately your right, I pulled the plug after the relentless attacks by several people. Why bother in trying to do something when most think I'm trying to rip them off. Look at it now, people think its just fine we struggle to pay our bills yet its ok to spend 8 thousand dollars on trees and other stuff from DLC. It does not matter if I had presented this or not, the board had decided already and it would not have happened. I don't see anyone as vocal as I have been on some of the issue, but you all are the first to attack. Tell you what pull your head out of your rear and do something? You all can attack me with no problem, but you all fail to do anything to help either but praise what a wonderful thing the HOA baord is and how they are king around here. You can say what you want, it doesn't bother me at all. I don't really give a crap what you all think, but look in the mirror as well, you all don't have a damn thing to offer either!

I pay my HOA dues EVERY month, and have since the day we moved into the Villages, we don't use any of the amenities really, but we pay obviously b/c that's what we're required to do to live in the Villages. And I have to say that it's frustrating to feel like the money you pay doesn't really matter. I mean what happens if the HOA goes under, then all the money we've payed was basically pointless anyways, right? Also I've heard ALOT about families who are living in houses in the Villages that were bought for them by the government. My question is do these people pay HOA dues, and if not it's frankly BS. I pay my taxes so the government can help people out, but I don't think it's right if our dues are going up every year to help cover what these individuals aren't paying.

millertime:

You raise a good question. All lot/home owners are required to pay HOA dues regardless of their source of obtaining financing.

It would be a good idea to present your question on the Villages website so that it can be addressed in more detail.
