Alert | What is the current true (not just houses, but people) population of the Town of Maricopa? Where can I find the official number? I ask because I keep hearing and seeing that people are moving out and houses are sitting empty, so I would like to know the official numbers.

Alert | | The numbers available are based on the interim census count that the City conducted. These do not take into account the number of people who have moved out of town, nor the number of people who are new residents. Until the next census count, we will not know the true impact of the empty houses. Even with a few new homes being built, and with homes being sold, no one keeps a count on the number of people leaving town. I did ask the mayorial candidate, Mr. Smith, a question on this same point, as I feel that Maricopa's population now is lower than it was a year or two ago, but his answer was that new homes are being built, so that he did not appear to be concerned about this. As fewer people mean less state funds, I hope this is not the case. In the interim, the official numbers are the interim census count ones.

The numbers available are based on the interim census count that the City conducted. These do not take into account the number of people who have moved out of town, nor the number of people who are new residents. Those are also based on self-reporting, so if someone wants to claim they have nine people living under their roof when they really live alone, they can skew the results rather dramatically. I don't know anyone who believes the 33,000 figure, though admittedly it is hard to estimate population in a new town. It seems that folks who are inclined to try and guesstimate it put the figures closer to 25,000 instead. It's entirely speculative, based upon the number of empty houses and the "feel" of this town versus those towns known to have populations around 35,000...so you can take it or leave it as you choose.

But, since the housing market sucks, it's very doubtful. Let me guess, you want the federal goverment to buy all the houses off the market plus make payments for the people who's interest rates went up.

Why do you have so much hate and anger built up inside drummer? Man you got a chip on your shoulder. I have no chip on my shoulder. I just want this country to change for the better. If I had the financial clout, I'd really be doing something about. I'm trying to be proactive about it. Not in this forum of course. Because, it's here that I like to have fun. | | OBAMA NATION!

Alert | Drummer is not a hater. He's a poker and a teaser, but not a hater. These boards have seen hate and that boy just ain't it.
I think it's a lot lower than 20,000. A LOT. I recognize many of the same people at Fry's and the park. I am greeted often by people who seem to know me. This is total "small world" material.
I think the utility companies should have a more accurate number. Do they give out such figures? | | Poster formerly known as Sassafrass.

Hmm...I can't agree. Since our census, I have noticed considerably more traffic on 347. That would not be the case if our population has shrunk. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | | The population is 37,000. It is going to grow more as the houses continue to become depressed. This is going to be the best blighted slum in Arizona. All new homes, stink, no jobs, bad traffic, bad roads. At least we have migrant workers and smelly farm animals! Go Maricopa! We have the best politicians in the world here!
