Does anyone have Dish Network at their residence? I am thinking of getting it, and I wanted to know how the reception is in Maricopa. Would you recommend Dish? Thank you for your time.

I have had Dish Network in Maricopa for about a year and a half. The reception, as it is through out most of the country, is excellent. That was ofcourse one of the initial advantages Dish Network and Direct TV offered - service to rural areas where cable was not available. But it has evolved to the point where satellite TV, both in quality and programming options is far superior to cable. You also get all of the local Phoenix channels via satellite now, and in high definition if you have an HDTV.

Yes! I recommend Dish. I am a big fan of their service. Do you have an HDTV? This can be a big factor in your decision. Direct TV currently has the edge over Dish in total number of HD channels (both are way ahead of cable), but I believe the Dish Network receiver/DVR is better than Direct TV which is very important, because it controls your programming guide, method of selecting and changing channels, recording movies and TV shows, and so on. As much as the quality of the programming itself, the receiver box dictates what type of viewing experience you will have.

I had Dish Net for 10 years and can't wait to get it here. Their customer service (if you should ever need it) is top notch.

I have had Dish ever since I moved into my home in RED and that was 5 1/2 years ago. I recommend them as what they offer is much better than Orbitel!!!!!!

looking at getting dish, we are moving to Maricopa this week after closing... thought about getting Maricopa broadband for cable but have seen all the problems people are having.... have cox now and they suck..... never had a dish before.... do you have to pay extra for local channels? if so can you still use your basic cable and dish together?  do they keep raising their prices? I see you can lock in on price but only till feb 2009 must mean it is going up then.... thanks

You do have to add locals to your subscription, which I believe adds $5.00 a month to your bill.  They have had some price increases, but they do not seem to increase their prices as fast as cable has, from what I remember.  I had COX service in Texas, and thought they were awful.  Remember, when you are a new customer, you are King.  They will pull out all the stops to get you which includes getting the good rates and deals.  Usually that comes with a 18 month committment.  You will not get those deals again from the same provider.  I do believe the prices are a better bargain with Dish Network, but for me, the quality of the service and the additional content blows away cable.  You get more for your money.

After some pains with 3 recievers and a dish issue ours works fine. We have the premium package, all local and all HD channels. I think the HD is much nicer than DTV was.

Here's a good website for researching cable or sat in the Phoenix area:
