 Alert | | I've noticed that many parents drive to and wait with their kids at bus stops in the neighborhood. I totally understand wanting to make sure your child gets off to school safely especially because it's dark this time of year. However, please be mindful of where you are parking and waiting. This morning when I went to work at 6:45am, there were six cars parked around the end of the street bus stop. I could not see oncoming traffic, nor did I have a clear view of the corner where the kids stand and/or walk to. Please be courteous to those driving through and keep enough of the intersection visible so other drivers can proceed safely through. | | | |

Alert | Agreed. This happens in Homestead on Haun quite often & I see it elsewhere. People are parking wherever they please, on the wrong side of the street and too close to the roadway so no one can see to pull out.
Even when it is warmer and lighter out there are still issues. One parent and child sit on the curb at Haun & DR Horton Drive with their legs and feet sprawled out in the street. And of course they have to have their little dog with them, running willy nilly at the end of its retractable leash.
My personal solution: Leave earlier

Alert | | This USED to happen in the Meadows, but I called the school district and indicated that it just isn't safe. I haven't had this happen in a while. I indicated that if parents are just going to drive the kids anyway, they should all meet at one place that is large enough for everyone to park safely. | |

Alert | I don't know the area this is happening in, but are there sex offenders located in this area? Maybe parents are concerned to leave without seeing the kids get on the bus.
I am not saying this is the case. The location was not specified in the first post.

Alert | | It's cold outside! I assumed the parents were waiting with the kids in the car because it can be cold in the mornings & I don't blame them (just watch where you are parking!). When it is warmer out (spring, fall), I see a lot of parents walking with their kids and waiting with them at the bus stops, not driving and parking. | |

worried about your line of sight? GO SLOWER.. the speed limit in the Villages is 25mph... and you should be going SLOWER than that around bus stops.. that's simple common sense... and the SAFEST thing to do..
BTW.. parking on Butterfield is not against the law... deal with it...
...and no, I don't park and wait at the bus stops.. I'm not one to think the world should change to suit my driving habits..

Alert | Wow! What has the world come to when people start to complain about other people sitting at the bus stop with their children?
Is it against the law for me to sit on the side of the road, waiting with my child till the bus comes? NO! I do it every day, in the VILLAGES! Maybe you are complaining about me. I sit in the little grey car, with my flashers on, just so I know people can see me. I sit near the corner, but not so far forward that a car can't see past me.
Not only that, but how do you know the people sitting with their kids aren't spending the only time they have that day with their kids? At least these parents are spending time with them! There are too many children these days that have to fend for themselves. I applaud the parents who are doing this. Just do it safely! | |

1) I'm not complaining or whining; I was pointing out a potentially dangerous situation.
2) I'm certainly not telling anyone not to spend time with your kids!!!!
3) I never said parking on Butterflield or anything about this was was illegal.
All I was doing was pointing out a potentially dangerous situation on my corner on Tuesday morning, hoping that parents would be mindful of where they park.

I live in the Villiages and Sometimes it is really hard to pull out of sagecrest when you have cars parked on the left, cars parked on the right and cars trying to come into Sagecrest when I am trying to come out. The road isn't wide enough! Than you try to pull out to get on butterfield and you have to becareful not to hit a car if the parent decides to pull out in front of you.
I totally get what you are trying to say. I think that bus stop should be moved south a little more and not be at the entrance to a development....

Alert | The only thing that makes it potentially unsafe are the drivers who aren't intelligent enough to SLOW DOWN when they don't have a clear view... what do you when you drive everywhere else?.. you know, common sense tells you that there just might be cases where you just can't do the speed limit for safety reasons.. If you haven't figured that out, you shouldn't be on the road...
If it means that much to you LEAVE EARLIER.. you know, when those nasty parents and bratty kids are hindering you from doing a full 25mph in a residential area aren't there...
.. Oh wait.. I know.. you'd rather have the world change to suit YOUR schedule, right?.. Maybe you should petition the school to start 30 minutes later.. so those dastardly parents and snotty kids aren't there when your majesty is wanting to use the road..
.. and your welcome for my insight.. take it to heart.. it'll make you a better person.. and a safer, less bitter, driver...

Alert | No one said anything about speeding around or speed period. When you pull up to a stop sign and can't see around the parked cars just sitting there and you have to inch out into the street and hope no one is coming... it isn't exactly the safest thing in the world.

Alert | | I totally agree with this topic. In Eagle Crest at Haun there is a center divider between the lane of traffic. I have seen people park on each side of the 1 lane with their lights off in the morning, you can't even see their cars parked there until you are right up on them. These idiots need to be safer about parking, and stop letting their kids run around in the street! What bothers me more is Dr Horton Dr. is like 3 lanes wide and nobody bothers parking there, they all cram into the single lane on Haun because heaven for bid they are 20 ft from the bus stop instead of being right on top of it. | |

Alert | | I think that the elementry schools should start later, in all honesty, I don't let my ten year old sister walk to the bus stop at 6 something in the morning in the dark and wait IN THE DARK! She's ten for crying out loud! I think that high schoolers like myself should be the ones going that early, since i get up and walk her anyway, I just don't think its safe and it defeats the purpose of having buses if the parents have to sit out there with thier kids anyway. Alert | wait, you drive to the corner where the bus stops? that must be like 10 miles huh? man, with all that driving you might need to stop at jack in the box to get a nice healthy breakfast. holy crap, we live in the desert, it doesn't get cold here. get your kid a jacket and walk to the stop with them if you are afraid to leave them alone. you and your kids could use the exercise, you'll be polluting less, you'll save gas money AND lower the demand for petroleum!
and shane, why should all the commuters need to change their daily routine because your precious offspring happens to be in the vicinity of them? it doesn't take a village to raise a child. it takes a PARENT! | |

Alert | | I totally agree with the OP. I live near the corner of Maricopa Ave and Maricopa Groves Pkwy. It's the main drop off for no less than 30 kids and when 15 cars are at that 4 corner stop, cars that are leaving for work cannot see around them to enter the intersection. And let's all be honest, some of these parents feel they are the only ones on earth who matter. As long as their kids are warm, who cares if I can't see well enough to enter traffic. All they have to do is park a tad further down the street and have the kids walk a few feet further. It's even worse now that the two houses are being built near the models and the workers park their trucks there. Now there is even less room. Just be more respectful. There is TWO PARKING LOTS. | | | |

Alert | wow kids have it easy these days! when i was a kid in michigan i always stood out at the end of the road waiting for the bus usually by myself and no place warm to hang out in. and it dosent even get that cold out here! lol i mean i understand parents trying to be nice to there kids and all but come on. I see parents at the end of alltera pkwy and bowlin all the time blocking up the street when theres a parking lot at the school right there god forbid there kid has to walk 20ft hell my driveway was 1/4 of a mile lol. oo well im just bitchy today i guess!  | | | |
