I just received my January invoice w/ additional charges showing I owe $30+ for one month, when I thought the monthly fee was around $10.

The explaination: if your trash can lid can not close flat there will be a $4 per time assessment. This nickel and diming can get expensive.

There is no letter explaining the charges being mailed to each homeowner, they are only telling people as they call in.

Before this, I was, well still am pleased, with the quality of service I receive compared to some of the city or other independantly contracted disposal companies I have used.

Now I will be looking into another service if there is one available.

I have heard that about Maricopa Disposal. We use Waste Management, are pleased and we hardly ever have a closed lid on trash days.

Java Lover,
Would you mind if I asked how much Waste Management charges? Now that we are getting billed separately from the HOA fees I noticed one of my neighbors has switched to Waste Management. If they can give me a better rate, I will switch at the end of the quarter.
Thanks!

dk ~ We are billed quarterly and it just went up but it's only $32. I've heard others say they are billed annually so I don't know if there are choices. Good luck.

I would love to get info on Waste Management. We went with Maricopa Disposal because we had no choice. Now that I have an option, I want to take it.
I am beyond furious about this situation.
The first bill we received was for only one month (when the HOA stopped paying) and the second bill was for three months. It will take you through the end of April.

I only paid one month's fees because it doesn't say on the bill it is for 3 months and the charges didn't add up.

I thought the trucks said Waste Management , but when I got my invoice it said Maricopa Disposal. I must be seeing things.

There have been several issues during the transition to Maricopa Disposal's own billing practices. If you are having issues, call Maricopa Disposal and speak with Georgia.
I know that there are 3 different "sections" of Alterra, so depending on which area you are in, that will determine when you get billed. I hope that most of the kinks will be out soon... hopefully!

We have WM. We do not live in Alterra, but we are back in a development. I just received out statement for 2/1-4/30 and it was $43.70. ($37.50 + $6.20 fuel/enviromental charge) We have pickup once a week and recycle once a week. Hope this helps.
In Hidden Valley we had MD and they charges us $60 every 3 months for 1 pickup a week! I'm not compalining now

Apparently we can't use WM services in Alterra? I called them and they said our HOA restricts us from using WM, we must use Maricopa Disposal. Is this correct or was I speaking with someone that just didn't know?

I believe that the HOA has a contract with Maricopa Disposal (this was put in place by the builders when they were in charge of the HOA), so we are unable to use Waste Management.
If you are still having trouble, please call Maricopa Disposal (we've been told that Georgia is really helpful)- if you call our HOA community manager (Jeanne), she won't be able to do anything for you!
