Okay, now our subdivision is being tagged by blue and the letter on the entrance sign into Alterra South was ripped off!  Homeowners keep your eyes peeled for these little snot nosed brats!

Hey Colgate, we saw that as well, and they took the "underline" thing as well. This is not cool at all. I started a thread about getting some block watches up and running. I think that the kids here are more bored than anything, they need some structured after school activities to keep them busy. Half the parents don't give a rat's behind what their kids are doing, as long as they are not disturbing them.

I think that block watches will go a long way, at this early stage, in preventing any more vandalism or late night disturbances. I will be handing out fliers tomorrow on my street in an attempt to get my neighborhood involved. I think we need to go over the HOA's head and stake our claim to our homes and the surrounding neighborhoods.

I am willing to hold meetings at my home and get a real discussion flowing, unlike the ones we see at the HOA meetings, which end up accomplishing nothing of any real significance. Let me know what you think.

I might be interested in the block watch. We live in the K Hov. portion of Alterra.

I'm sorry to hear about the disturbance on your street.  This is my first time posting on 85239.com but I felt the block watch issue is definitely an issue I should address.  I am on the Alterra HOA board and I also head up the Alterra Block Watch comittee.  Luckily we have not had a lot of issues in Alterra but this has also lead to my complacency and I apologize for this.  I will do my best to have a date and time scheduled for announcement at the next HOA meeting.  It's best that we keep the Block Watch as part the HOA and not have a number of different factions with same intent of keeping our community safe.
In the meantime, this weekend I will do my best to have the AlterraHOA website updated with more detailed information concerning the Block Watch committee as well as the other committees created by the HOA.  I'll also post the contact information for myself as well as the numbers for the proper authorities.
The biggest thing though for those not already aware, if you suspect something illegal contact the police immediately.  In no way, shape, or form should anyone take action themselves, and there is no reason not to contact the police.  It's not entirely necessary to have bands of roaming neighbors policing the community if everyone simply looks out for each other and is willing to make a call when something is wrong.

I believe that the board or mgt co. should contact the police to file a report. If we have reports on file for tracking then the next unfortunate issue to occur will have the police doing many more drive throughs to catch these bored little low lifers!!!

It is unfortunate, but it is a reality. There is very little for these kids to do in this town. Even once they have the new "community center" up and running (a long way from now), it will be too far away for the kids in Alterra, MM and DC.

Idle hands are the devil's playground, isnt' that the saying? These kids have way too much idle time in which to do mischief. I wonder if the city is thinking about any of this, as opposed to new land deals and city hall parking lots. It's sort of ashame when the needs of residents go unnoticed while the "wants" of the city are fulfilled left and right. Maybe I'm just going to have to arrange for a baby sitter and start going to all of these meetings lol.

The community should not have to entertain YOUR kids to keep them from vandalizing other people's property.

If you taught your kids the difference between right and wrong, that would be a great start.

Thanks in advance for your commitment to this matter.

I agree with RichTig, my kids get so bored that they pick the heck out of each other instead of out vandalizing others property!!! No really, they know that if they ever got caught vandalizing personal property I would shine my shoe so far up their butts their heads would spin!!!

I agree with both of you, it is not necessarily the city's job to keep these kids entertained and off the streets. I also agree with you Colgate on the show shining lol. I have three boys and the oldest is 12, but we keep them fairly entertained here at home and they have friends here on the street. They can not leave the street without permission, if they leave, they must be going with another child who I know and knowing my children's friend's parents is a MUST!

The issue is that my two older boys have brough some kids to my house that were 100% uncared for by their parents. Dirty little snot nosed things and I'd always ask if their parents knew where they were and it was always a "no" and a shrug of the shoulders. One kid was at my house until after dark and needed a ride home, he lived in North and when he called his parents, his mom said "You got yourself there, now get yourself home". The poor kid is nine, so I took him home and he could barely find his house at night.

It is not my children who I am worried about, I have witnessed first hand that some of these parent's couldn't care less. It really does become our problem when the parents refuse to take responsibility and our neighborhoods are being vandalized. Yes, call the cops when/if you see something, but if you're not catching the brats, then how do we know who's doing it and whose parents to pin the fine on?

My kids think that we're so mean because they can't just do what they want, when they want. Heck, I'll take being mean over ignorant any day lol!
