I am sure some of you noticed the new stop signs placed at the two points in the Fry's parking lot. I have a couple of questions/points to make. They placed a stop sign as your coming in from Edison (which you can't go that way anymore) and you can go behind Frys, as you are coming up next to the Fitness place, there are three stop signs but not one for traffic that came from behind...........WHY WASN"T A STOP SING PUT THERE? Believe me, If I don't stop I would get hit by some other car "yielding" at their stop. Then when you pull up to the Fry's light, and you want to go straight, you have cars in both lanes going both directions, the arrows/lines are clearly not marked. Mind you I stay out of the left turn lane and stay in the right turn lane to go straight........Why hasn't the lines been re-marked. It is just fine on the Basha's side.??? And who should I send an email too to fix this problem?

I hear you on this. That 3way instead of 4way stop has been the source of many close calls.
Since it is private property, I would assume that the company that owns and/or manages the property would be who to contact. It is not a City of Maricopa issue.

It is private property and stop signs are only suggestions.

That explains alot! Did you learn to drive in Mexico?  I know down there, a stop sign means "stop if your brakes work. If not, hope the other guy does!" Parking lots are dangerous enough without people not following signs. Plus, isn't it common knowledge that the drive behind stores is for the delivery trucks? People who drive behind stores as a thoroughfare are just asking to get hit.

Relax Francis.  I said they are suggestions, not that everyone should run them.

Well it is not just the people that drive behind Frys who have to worry about having to stop at their section where there is no stop sign there are also people who park behind there because of work, as well as going to the gym etc ! And I would much rather drive behind Fry's then drive in front exspecially at the blind turn and I wouldn't even mind going to Edison if the stupid light was timed better ! Just my 2 cents. Maybe I will contact the management company, I am expecially frusterated with the no markings at the light more then I am the stop signs.

I haven't been to Fry's in a while. Have they done anything with the free for all area up by the gas station? That seems to me like a real danger zone.

When you say danger zone you remind me of that song from Top Gun.

If you find it that dangerous. Its simple don't go there. If you get in a wreck there then its your own fault.

Hmmm... I stand by answrer. Thanks for the suggestions.
In reality, if you hit my car because you did not stop I would take you to task for the damage.
That is a pretty good slam dunk. You had a stop sign and I did not.
That does not make it right, but it does paint you in the wrong pretty well.

That being said, the owners and managers of the property, really should look at the traffic controls they have laid out on their property.

If it is that a big a deal too you, then you should call/write/email the owners and managers of the property and let them know your concerns for the safety of their customers.

I wonder how insurance companies would handle it. I bet that the person who had the stop sign would be paying most or all of the damages versus the one who didn't have a stop sign.

Personally, I would try and avoid getting into an accident in a parking lot (aka private property). Since it's private property and not a public street or highway, the police have no jurisdiction to issue traffic citations (with the exception of parking in a handicapped space without the proper license plate/placard). It'll pretty much turn into a he said/she said argument between you and the other driver, and you and your insurance company. In the end, you'll both probably end up paying for the damage to your own vehicle and not the other person's. Look for the insurance increase to follow soon thereafter.

I was also told by a Phoenix police officer some time ago that you actually aren't required to stop at stop signs located on private property (still on the parking lot here). However, if the stop sign leads out to a public street (Edison or JWP, in this case), you ARE required to stop. I am certainly NOT condoning this action, but merely pointing out the facts. The stop signs are there to try and keep people safe, but there is no official recourse the police can take for you blowing through the stop signs at the Fry's parking lot (or Basha's, or wherever else).

Like I said, that only applies to private property. Residential, city streets, highways, etc., REQUIRE that you stop at all stop signs. If you blast through those stop signs, the police can and will take action.

No jurisdiction to issue citations on private property? So what was it when they ticketed people for cutting through the parking lot of Ace Hardware?

They didn't ticket them on private property. They issued the ticket on public roads after they had supposedly shown that they used private property to avoid a traffic control device.

There really are only a handful of traffic laws that apply on private property. Handicapped parking, fire lanes and accident laws all apply. That's pretty much it. If you were caught doing 100 MPH in the back of Fry's, I doubt there is much they could do, unless you hit someone.

If you blast through those stop signs, the police can and will take action.
Unless you're in Maricopa. Then they pretty much only go after a few red light/stop sign runners per week.

Well, they did manage to catch 4 people for failing to stop at a stop sign this week. With those numbers, you're pretty much guaranteed..... not to get stopped for blasting through a stop sign. Here, here to the odds!

You are so wrong...stop in Mexico means STOP ONLY IF ANOTHER CAR IS THERE....get it right
