Is anyone else upset over this new increase in the HOA fee. A 20% increase for what, just because we have an office on site. The results are still the same. Their not even having a meeting to discuss the increase and to get our input. It's good to know that we an HOA representing our needs.

Where is my swimming pool and hot tub? Where are the tennis courts we are paying for with all these HOA fees? Obviously, I have missed something because we pay more in HOA fees then almost ALL of the other subdivisions yet we have NOTHING! I really don't understand?!? Tortosa is not finished being built yet, how much water can we possibly use??? The Sniper Tower's water was just turned on and the fountain is hardly ever on....We don't have that much grass to water. I am upset ( as you may have guessed) and I think we have the right to have an audit of the finances. Anyone ever work with an HOA before??? I want to know our rights as homeowners. I mean we have to pay, so I should have rights! I really want them to justify the CRAZY amount of money they are spending on paper, salaries, phone service, landscaping, ect......

I too love how they said we had intended to have a town hall meeting, but the only place they could hold it was at the school and they wouldn't allow that. What about the park we have? Considering it's not that hot or cold out, we could have had something there. Or, even the gravel area outside their trailer would have been fine. so to use the excuse, the school wouldn't let us have it is real BS.

SO, let me get this straight. We have only 1 small community park, no tennis courts, no pool, no fishing lake as we were told by our builder, we pretty much have nothing...a fountain that only works part of the time, a tower that took at least a year to get completed and it's still not even complete and yet, we're being told that we must pay $85 a month? Soooo...$12,000 for social events...you're telling me, that movie in the park was $12,000? cause it's been months and there have been no other events, so that must have been one darn good event.

I'm going to call on monday and tell them, I request to see an audit of their expenses, line by line, amount by amount. There is absolutely no reason for a $15 jump...considering there are more families living here now, compared to when we moved in back in Feb, there should be no excuse for this big of an increase.

Honestly....I'm not exactly a happier camper. We have nothing to be honest that would make me believe we need to pay $85.

Sorry, had a long day, already been home 2 days with a cold, just not a happy girl today.

It's been pouring since I got home. At this point, I hardly think it's worth trudging to the mail box for.

Thanks anyway, for the news.

Nancy, you are missing nothing, but sad lies!! I, too, am going to ask to see an audit. I am going to email (so there is proof in writing that I asked) them and ask about line by line audit. It is too much of an increase IMO.
What about if we don't spend $12,000 in events during the year, do we get a refund? NOOOOO... Where does the money go??? These are just projections that we are to pay for even if they don't happen.

I haven't seen this yet, but it ticks me off already! There cannot be that much of a need to raise our HOA - ESPECIALLY considering we have limited ammenities and a monthly payment already higher than those associations with ammenities. Last I heard they had $800,000 sitting in an account for a fishing pond that hasn't even been started - AND my DH knows someone from the company that does the designs and build-outs on those features who told DH he hasn't seen any plans for a fishing pond which means it is more than 2 yrs out! If we are having to pay this much out because things actually are costing that much a whole lot needs to be switched around - Glennwilde has pool(s?) and pays approx $70 a month (think that is what I was told), and that includes cable as well. We are still paying $15 a month of cable no one uses. If they feel the need to up our rates, wouldn't the best step have been cancelling the cable?

I think we will be writing them - hopefully everyone else will too, with any luck something can be done - this is crazy.

i hadnt checked my mail yet either but will definitely do so by morning....i am ticked to hear about the increase in dues....maybe we should tell them to take their future events and stick it....and tell them they neednt use that trailer if thats going to make the cost higher...we did fine when the HOA wasnt local...this is just sickening and im afraid it will only get worse before it gets better

Their 'contact us' site is down at the moment, but this is what I have written:

Our HOA rates were recently increased by 20%. This makes our monthly payments higher than the majority of the communities in the area. We have fewer amenities, and amenities which have been promised but do not exist at the moment. The amenities which have not been built still do not equal the amenities of other communities, yet our cost is higher? If things are truly costing as much as you are identifying perhaps we should examine our spending habits and budget more frugally – looking to neighboring communities as examples.

Tortosa is still new and growing and I am willing to wait patiently as it continues to grow and mature. I look forward to the day when I can take my family fishing at the catch and release pond. I expect the difficulties with the entrance and the fountain to be worked out, however, I do not feel a HOA monthly increase is justified, and although I realize I am your slave until the association is turned over to the homeowners, I do not feel an increase is needed or acceptable. Please, reconsider. Find a different way to fund what is necessary – stop planning movies in the park if that is what it takes – I’d rather not have that money spent . . . especially if it is costing $12,000!

The idea that a meeting was not possible is an excuse.

OK, if you go to the website and click on communities you can get to an e-mail address that is NOT just to the girls in the office, who, lets face it, have no control anyway. You can send an e-mail from there. I now have an auto response from Elda Pierpan, she is on vacation the 29th and 30th of Nov. Perhaps we should stop paying for auto e-mails to be sent informing us our customer service reps are on vacation. . .

So what sort of recourse do we have here? Who can we all call to harass about these outrageous charges?

I am wondering the same thing as caveman. We MUST have some rights when it comes to our money and where it is being spent or should I say how it is being spent. I know that $15 more a month is not going to break any of us, but it is the principle of the matter. I just do not believe that they are spending the money the way they say they are spending the money I would like to speak to anyone that has worked with an HOA before ( this is my first time) or has actually sat on a board and we can fight this the right way. I know there has to be someone who has belonged to an HOA before this one.....Let's work as a team/community and fight this.

I'm on bord for fighting it, but looking at the AZ revised statute thier is no fighting it. We can audit them at the end of the year (mind you that means paying them for a full year then finding out where the money went. We need a 25% members particapain on a petition witch meeans that every homeowner would have to sign off on it since builder still own around 75% of the properties. I would love to sign one I'm just woried about wording it right and any owners that don't live in the area. I wounder if anyone has any legal know how among us to realy fight this. It would be nice if we could take this thing over befor we build out.

i think this is unbelievable! there is a community being built (rancho mirage) faster than the sniper tower is being built (not that it is even finished yet!) is this where our money is going? and i agree about the $ being spent for "social events." i'd rather save the $ and stay home or plan my own social outings. i have been so angry about this since i went to my mailbox today! as far as i can see, tortosa is lacking tremendously compared to other communities. we have below average play parks which aren't even covered. we have dead grass everywhere instead of the pretty winter grass. i wasn't too impressed with our HOA when we were paying $70, but now i'm irate! we should call channel 3 and talk to gary harper. even though he may not get our HOA's lowered, we can let others know they should think twice before moving to tortosa. although, knowing our HOA company, we will have another $10 added as a fine for being bad residents!

we finally voted in a smart president!
