Is there anyone that has a husband or friend that does this we can talk to about there lifestyle. If its benificial and all that. We recently just got married and now he wants to do whatever it takes to be home more and watch the kids grow. Any input would be great....

Alert | | I work with PD on a daily basis. I believe they work 4-10's a week right now. Which would give him 3 days home. I don't know any of them personally outside of work. I would suggest he go to the temporary PD station next to temp city hall and ask any of them on duty. Even do a ride along. I know DPS is really hurting for people also. He could try them. After 3 years of road service with DPS he could get his paramedic and work on the helicopter doing rescues/searches/etc. They work 6 days a month doing that. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Alert | | My husband was in a very secure job for years in upper management when he decided to make the change to become an officer (not Maricopa PD). He applied, was hired (the process can take months), and went through training. If you have any specific questions, go ahead an PM me. Good luck to your family.

Would you rather trade your husband that is gone temporarily for a husband that could be gone permanantly? That's what's great about life, you can make decisions, decisions that can affect your family temporarily or ones that can affect them permanantly, you should also look into divorce rates of women that are married to men in law enforcement it may open your eyes to the situation at hand.

There were more people killed in car wrecks than there were police killed in Maricopa last year. Face it, life is a risk.

Alert | Your husband may want to check out this link. The top end, according to this site, for pay is only $61K for a cop. My hubby makes more than that driving truck locally. Home every night and off weekends.

What kind of upper management job would you leave to become a police officer?

Alert | I have been a police officer for 11 years and love it. It does come with its severe ups and downs. there are days you question the creator, when you see some of the worst sights that the average citizen would never and could never comprehend. then there are days where the loser who dubs you a "dumb F'ing pig" puts a smile on your face becasue you know that what you are doing actually means something (plus the pay and benefits are skyrocketing these days). it can be the most rewarding job in the world. It is dangerous, and as one poster put it, there is a high divorce rate amongst officers. However, there is a high divorce rate, period. and yes officers do perish in the line of duty, but so do inncoent citizens minding their own business. As somene else added, definately get a hold of the department and do a ride-a-long. heck, I think everyone should do a ride-a-long. it would really open your eyes to what ACTUALLY happens on the street as opposed to CSI or in the movies. Maricopa PD seems to be a great place to work. I work elsewhere but I do know several of the officers out here. there is always a bad one or two in the bunch, but for the most part Maricopa PD has a great reputation and the officers I have met are very friendly. it is also a very progessive department, with, in my opinion, the hottest PD cars in the state. that right there is reason enough to check it out (the progressive part, not the cool cars) There is another thread somewhere else on this forum about MARICOPA PD WIVES. get on there and talk to some of them. And don't just settle for Maricopa because it is right here. Chandler, Casa Grande, Tempe, DPS, and Gilbert officers all live out here. Also check in to Border Patrol. the pay is not as much off the bat, but he would be in the federal retirment system, with their unmatched benefits.

Alert | | This may be way off topic, that NOW HIRING sign as you come into town should have working, flashing lights. Not only to remind people of the speed, and/or "we are watching you", however to catch the attention of passer-bys' that may need a job.

Are you one of those pigs though, they seem to be a dime a dozen out here and I'm sure you will agree? The typical guy that was beat on in high school, went through a socialist college program and now feels it's his call of duty to enforce the law on motorists and actual citizens that obey the law but got caught doing 5mph over, in a kind of a getting back at society type of way? Personally I prefer Federal all day long over being a traffic or beat cop, but you know just as well as I why some people choose State over Federal, not knocking you, but if you are Copa Police it looks like Hazzard County is raging a war on gathering assets to provide for the police force instead of stopping real threats to your environment. I'm sure you are aware of the Federal investigation that has been on going in Copa for over 2 years now correct? If not you should really look into it and definatly be a friend to your community instead of an enforcer.

Alert | | Tell him to apply for the border patrol, he'll do 3 months of training in New Mexico and most likely get to go to Ajo everyday, his pay depending on education his first year should start around 46K and he will get an increase after his final test to ride solo in his own vehicle plus he would be elgible for shift increase pay and overtime. After a couple of years he can apply to the FBI and will probly be a shoe in for field agent.

Alert | Hi Seri, First off it is respectable that your husband is considering the LE profession. It is something that can not be entered into lightly, as I am sure officers and their families will tell you, it is so much more than just a job. It is a new life for all of those involved. Some of it is positive, such as the support that the police brothers and sisters have as they are all one big family supporting one another. It can be rewarding to make a diference in many peoples lives, although it is more than often not appreciated by many. Drawbacks and dangers? Of course. This profession is one of duty and selflessness. NO officer goes into the field to get rich. It is, for most, a call to duty and desire to serve others. Great advice to meet officers, ride along and do homework ont he various departments. I have heard great things about Maricopa and Tempe PD in particular. Best of luck to you and Yours! As for the lamplitespammer, your gigantic graphic you keep spamming...it's almost as ignorant as your posts.
