Alert | | We have come to find the choices for Internet providers for those of us living in Tortosa is very limited. We have checked a few providers, but without having a phone line it appears we are limited to MBB. Have any of you found an alternate carrier that offers cable or fios internet that services our development? We are pretty frustrated w/ MBB's internet service for a variety of reasons and if there is an option out there which may be better, we would like to know since we've not had much luck finding one on our own. If there is anybody out there who has knowledge of any possible options and would like to share it would be very much appreciated. <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/smile.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Smile' align='absmiddle'>

Alert | Your choices are somewhat limited in Tortosa, as is the same for all of Maricopa.
MBB have the contract to be the cable/internet supplier in Tortosa, amongst other sub-divisions, and therefore were the ones to create and maintain the cable infrastructure, in return for guaranteed income in the form of basic cable being mandatory from residents, paid for through your HOA dues.
Would you rather have bought a home without any access to cable service whatsoever, forever? How would that look on flyers when it's resale time?
Basically, you can choose between MBB for cable/internet, Qwest for phone/internet (phone line required)/tv, DirecTV for satellite or Dish Network for satellite. There is also a company called Transcend Broadband that is offering a wireless internet/phone package available, although previous threads/posters haven't had anything good to say about them yet.
I consider myself somewhat informed with computers/gadgets/technical issues and am interested to know what exactly is your issue with MBB?
I know they recently invested in a new DS3 circuit to provide extra bandwidth, and another is on it's way, so are you having a bandwidth issue, speed issue, connection issue, email issue etc etc?
Perhaps I can help, or at least give you some answers/advice/pointers?
Hope you and your family had a great Christmas and wish you an even better New Year! | | My favorite Dictator

Alert | Maybe Qwest? Maybe Orbitel? Not sure if either of those will do internet out here or not.
What problems are you having with MBB? I guess we are lucky, we've had them for almost a year, since we moved here, and we've been happy with the service, we get quick speed, takes like 10 seconds to send an email with pictures attached, the internet is fast, of course, the internet is only as fast as the website you're accessing, such as this website, tends to be slow, no matter what computer i use. At work, we have Cox for our internet and it's even slower to access this site here than at home. But overall, we've been very pleased with both the cable and internet.
I do hate that cable is attached to the HOA, only because I would have liked to have had the choice to pick who we wanted to use, but at the end, we would still end up paying the $20 a month whether we paid it to MBB via our HOA or if we paid Qwest or Direct TV or whoever we picked. Plus, the channels here are very similar to the other cable companies, except, I do wish we had 2 channels that we had on Cox in Scottsdale, otherwise, we've had no problems, but since others have, I guess we are lucky.

Alert | Well alrighty then. Not really in the mood to fight or argue, so I'll just ignore that comment Lady, but thanks for feeling the need to say something rude like that for no real reason. Truly appreciate that.
Anyways, lets get back to being adults and back to the topic at hand...Boyz, like I said, we're good with MBB, but for us, in our apartment we only had dial up, so maybe we're just happy to have faster service than we did before. I did ask some friends who have Qwest and they do like them for internet. Im thinking since Qwest does the phones out here, they may be able to do the internet too. At least you would assume they would.

Alert | charann you are right about the quality. I have used cox for the last few years with great results, switching to MBB was pretty much the same experience. The only thing that still scares me is their website says "Network Traffic limitations apply". However they never say what the limits are, and when you call their "Support" they tell you to talk to the network admin who I don't blame for not calling back on stupid crap like this, I am sure he has better stuff to do, I know I would.
Qwest is available out there, but now matter how you look at it Qwest DSL is not going to be as fast as 6mb cable. Sure DSL is suppose to be more dedicated but it is still shared.
I would recommend MBB for now, until they start sending out "Network Overage charges" bills out they are a good choice.

Alert | | Good luck on getting FIOS. You can only get that in very limited areas of the country. MBB provides good service, they are the fastest in Maricopa.

Alert | We have Qwest at our house that is run thru our cable box so I'm not sure that you need a phone line...we bought one of the Lynxis (spelling?) too so it is wireless throughout our house...so that is pretty cool. I'm computer illiterate so thats pretty much all I know about it...you could probably get really helpful info from the customer service dept. 800-244-1111 They have always been very helpful with us.
Good luck! | | | |

Alert | We have Qwest "cable" , a phone line isn't necessary. They install little antennae to the back of your tvs and give you a "cable" box.
It's flawless and competitively priced.
We also use the wireless (works for PC's also) internet service, it's fast.
We used to have the midrange internet service from Qwest; it felt like that service was equally speedy and my connection was never lost - both seem to be faster than Cox Internet.
