Hi everyone.. I'm looking for recommendations on a landscape designer.. Not someone to do landscaping, but someone to design my backyard.. Where to place the pool, outdoor BBQ, what type of materials, and so on..

I know about AUL, but looking for other suggestions...

I'm a little confused....
Are you looking for someone to just design the layout and you plan on doing the work yourself?
Or... are you planning on contracting a company to design and do the work?
Either way if you look in the business section under landscaping you'll see a few to call.
I personally have seen many designs by... AUL...Machado's....Estrella...all different in one way or another but all smartly designed.

gardenglow:

It could be a bit of both. Some parts might be contracted, some I might do myself.. But its going to be spread over a few years, in order to make it affordable... I want a nice backyard in the end, not something that looks like it was put together piecemeal...

I have a general idea of what i want where, but if I have someone who does it professionally, they may tell me something will not work as I envision it.. Or they may have better ideas than I do..

Check out the entrance to RED. You never know when you may see "Backwater Landscaping" parked out front trying to drum up business. . . . .

garion...

I'm not sure if any landscape contractors offer just "design" consultations as a separate service...I would think so though...call a few and ask...for a small fee you could be saving yourself from a big headache...

There are books and magazines that you can get lots of good ideas from also...

Since you plan on doing the work over a period of time..one thing I would keep in mind is if you are planning on laying flagstone or other type of patio stone it may be hard to match it later on...I'd buy it all at one time and use it as you go....

Most of all have fun with it....

garion, I was being facetious in my earlier post. Sorry, just a bit of cross post humor. You may want to consider a good landscaping program for the computer. They are very user friendly and lets you paly with so many different ideas instead of having one plan drwan up by a designer. Just a thought.

I've used a few programs in the past, but they don't aren't great at answering questions that i have.. Stuff like how big is the pool equipment for the size pool I want, how noisy.. Would be it better to place in the far corner, or near corner, since I'm considering going with solar heated water.. How do I handle drainage from my sink in the outdoor kitchen? How deep do I need to do water/electric lines to be legal? How warm do certain types of pavers/contrete get in full sun? Are there other materials I should consider... How much more water will I use if I have an outdoor fountain... And so on..

Placing things on a map is easy, but getting ready to actually build the stuff is another story

A neighbor of my brother-in-law had several companies come out and design a plan according to what he wanted but in the ending he decided to use their plan and do it himself.

I know it seems wrong but it worked for him.
