Alert | | I read recently that Maricoa PD are giving out tickets to people for just 1 MPH over the speed limit. If this is the case, I see we are in for a long ride as residents here.

Alert | | why don't you go for a drive, 1 mile over of course, and report to us your findings? Oh yea, all of your reports are unfounded so research wouldn't be your "speed".... | | Senior Member 406 posts Joined May 2005

Alert | Posted By robinlynn on 01/20/2008 10:44 AM Get Real, DB,When was the last time your speedometer was calibrated? You are fair game too! Not to mention their radar guns have an accuracy margin of 1 MPH. If this is true, they are really wasting everyone's time and money. There are far more dangerous things going on than people going 1 MPH over. Like red light runners. That's right, people going 1 MPH over are definitely more dangerous than red light runners. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | I love the way Denna has sourced her information.

Alert | | It wouldn't be a first though, other cities have given out tickets for 1 MPH over the limit. A formal announcement from the MPD would be nice. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | While .001 mph over the posted limit is speeding, the challenge is proving the speed. A tolerance of between 5 - 10 mph is typical. Otherwise, the officer is likely wasting everyone's time because anything less can be successfully challenged in court.

Alert | I also heard you will be getting a ticket if: Your tire pressure is too low You've had doors replaced that aren't the same color. Your gas cap is missing.

Alert | | I actually had to go to driving school for speeding and in that class there were 5 given tickets for under 5MPH over. I was like 10 MPH over so now I am doing the speed limit which pisses you all off! But I don't need another ticket!

Alert | | From what I understand, that is in the school zones.

Alert | | I think Beetie is correct. I believe schools zones are zero tolerance areas for speeders...anything over the posted 15 mph is going to get you a ticket.
