Alert | | I've read and heard they are a piece of junk. Consumer Reports rates them low in all areas. Most of the Chrylser products are on the "DO NOT PURCHASE LIST" | | 25th Infantry Division <---- Tropic Lightning

Alert | My mom has one as a rental car after her accident. It is very loud - both the engine and road noise. She has also mentioned that it isn't a very smooth ride. After sitting in the passenger seat last night, I wouldn't buy one.

Alert | I would not go by Consumer Reports too much. They are heavily biased towards asian imports. Heck last year they rated the Honda Ridgeline as their first choice in a truck. C'mon, a unibody truck with low towing and payload, why do you need a truck to begin with? They also stated that they couldn't reccomend ANY mercedes at all (parent company of Chrysler at the time). Makes you wonder....
As for the Caliber, I don't like it much it either, though they are coming out with an SRT4 high performance version soon and that could be nice. I think they should have stayed with the Neon. You might look at a Compass, same underpinnings but more safety features standard, it's quieter and better built. | | Anyone who advocates a "one" world government, a "one" social order, or a "one" enviroment is a communist trying to take away your freedoms. Alert | I LOVE my Dodge Caliber! Absolutely LOVE it.
I have to admit that I'm not much "into" cars. It doesn't matter what I drive as long as it goes forward when I throw it into 1st gear.
I DID buy the extended warranty so I am covered bumper-to-bumper for 80K miles. But I haven't had to use it yet -- nothing except oil changes so far -- the car has 12,000 miles on it.
By far my FAVORITE thing about the car is that I have to pull into Frys for a fill up approx once every 3 weeks. I get 35+ miles per gallon.

My fiance has one and it is not loud at all In fact, while I am not much of a fan of the outside of the car, I think the inside is very nice. It is fun to drive, too. If you like the way it looks (which took a little getting used to for me since it is so unique-looking) then I think you would like the car overall. We haven't had any problems with it....take one for a test-drive.

oh ya I rented one on a business trip once and I didn't have to buy a cooler on the weekend to drive in to Canada so that was pretty cool...take a cold one out put a warm one in... 7 beers later arrive in Toronto

Alert | Just needed to resurrect this thread to point out...
Has anyone else noticed that Calibers are multiplying like unspayed junkyard dogs??? They are everywhere!! Today I parked my Caliber at Fry's right next to another Caliber, and two other Calibers were parked in the same row. And they are everywhere else on the road -- I regularly see at least 1 or 2 on my way to work (~12 miles).
Cool. Happy to see that the rest of the world is catching on...
Heh heh.

Alert | | i have only rented the caliber and it would be fine for me if i was only using it has a commuter car otherwise its a little noisy and doesnt ride like a caddly but its got a fair amount of room (im6'3) otherwise its just ok. There made to be more affordable so i dont know why people expect them to be in the class of a bmw or mercedes? And im not sure why chrysler gets such a bad rap i have owned my fair share of new chevys and fords and i had to be at the dealer atleast 2 times a month with both of them and any of the dodges or jeeps i have had hardly any problems my last ram the fuel pump went at 86000 miles i got 140,000 before i sold it. i have never had my jeep in for service.

Alert | | I have been driving one for the past three weeks as a rental while my truck is in the shop from an accident. It's a piece of crap!! Very noisy, sounds like the windows are down when I get up to freeway speed even though they aren't. It also has NO power...I floored it to merge onto 347 and thought I was going to die, the pedal was to the floor but the car wasn't moving...maybe since it's a rental and the base model if you actually bought one you could upgrade the engine. I'm pretty sure this things engine came straight out of a lawn mower!!

Alert | | yeah the base model is not that great. My fiance has the middle model, not the rt but the one lower than that. It is a good car, not any noisier than most cars, but we just found out the tires are really expensive and rare. He paid $150 for one! I pay less than that for low-profile tires. We wish we would have known that before buying the car; hopefully the price will go down and the tires will be easier to find as the car has gotten more popular.

Cool Demonica! Welcome to the "club" -- what color is your Caliber? I see a lot of black ones around. Mine is white.

Jason, I traded in my Grand Cherokee to get the Caliber. And do you know why? Jeeps are supposed to be these tough, off-road, killer vehicles -- and yet the first time I took mine through a mud puddle the front axle clogged up and it never drove well after that. I brought it in time after time to get the problem fixed, and the mechanics were never able to solve the problem. That JEEP was poop -- in a big way. Calibers rule.
Plus, the 14 mpg (Jeep) compared to the 34 mpg (Caliber) is pretty easy to take.
