Alert | | Hi, I just want to share a very sad story with a happy ending. A few weeks ago a very sick Bassett hound was dumped by it's owner in a dumpster at a McDonalds in Apache Junction. Fortunately the dumping was witnessed and the dog was rescued. AZBHR took her in. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer and very close to the end. The foster mom gave her loving care and medication to ease her pain. Pampered her with steak, burgers and a special comfy bed. Naomi went to Rainbow Bridge yesterday . We're thankful her last memories were of love and comfort and not a smelly dumpster. Unfortunately this is one of way too many sad stories. If you have room in your home and your heart, won't you help save the life of one of these poor unfortunate animals? All of the rescues need foster homes to help with the abundance of dumped pets. Happy New Year...

Alert | We have our Daisy Mae, a dog that was found and turned over to the Pet Social Worker, who kept her for at least three weeks. When she came to us, she was ready for a permanent place to call home, and now she has it. She has made friends with all of the other animals that we have here. I have never had a Basset before, but this one is an absolute sweetheart. She can always be found at my feet or curled up in my recliner whether I am in it or not. I can't imagine someone throwing a dog like that away.
Naomi's foster mom did a really great thing by giving her a comfortable and dignified send off. | | Stupid should hurt!

Alert | How wonderful that Naomi could be shown this kind of love in her last days. I would like to just strangle people who would hurt or neglect an animal. They don't deserve to share this world with the rest of us. You know a truly kind person by the way they treat animals. Way to go, foster moms out there! If I didn't have a housefull already with kids, dogs and birds (and a tiny yard) and a husband who wouldn't go for it - I'd have my own little pet farm going on. Thank you for loving these poor things.

Alert | Thanks for sharing that! I will make my next AZ Humane Society or AZBHR donation in her name. Sounds so much like the story of little Madeline the tiny, emaciated, white Pekingese that was found in VRED a couple of months ago. She was starved to near death & her organs started to shut down. STILL, a foster mom came forward to help me care for her and MWVH provided discounted vet care for her since she was a rescue. She passed away peacefully and for at least her last few weeks of life, she was fed, pampered, loved & slept next to her foster mom every night. Thanks rescuemom! I know the Basset's of AZ owe you and your organization a ton!

Alert | | Thanks Kim, I know your donation will be greatly appreciated. And thanks from the animals to all the people out there who do help rescue. Many times over I've heard that saved animals make the best pets. Instinctively or whatever, they know you've saved their life and are forever grateful. There are a multitude of ways to help rescue, not everyone can foster. If you are interested in helping at all, contact the rescue of your choice and just ask what you can do to help.
