Has anyone ever used these services? And if so, what does it do to your credit score and was it helpful and can you include student loans? Oh, and who did you use and did you like them?
Thanks

Look it up online. Some of them will give you a low rate at first knowing that you will not pay it off before the rates jump Sky high. It depends on who you use for the consolidation.

Using the home is one of the best ways.. but you have to have a change in your life style to make it work. No fancy dinners, going out on the town is on a budget, and you have to make due with what you have.

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

I really don't know anything about it, thanks for the info. So, it's like a loan but with a variable interest rate?

Yes it is...

There's lots of different types... just like house loans. You just have to find the one that's right for you.

Have you read any of Dave Ramseys books or heard him on the radio?
Check out www.daveramsey.com before you get your loan. I have his book Financial Peace and there was a section in there about debt consolidation. It has changed the way I look and feel about everything.
Good luck

I would be wary of debt consolidation companies. Many out there do not have your best interest in mind. I would defintely do plenty of research on companies if you do decide debt consolidation is for you.

I would also check out the MSN Money Message boards. There is a forum hosted by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling where you will get responses by actual credit counselors as well as others in your same situation.

Here is the link:

janice- thanks! The more and more I try to investigate it, the more apprehensive I become. It seems like it may in the long run make my situation worse. Maybe I just need a credit counselor. lol. Really, is there such a thing???

if you PM me i would give you more information than they allow here..

debt consolidation & debt reduction comps help you settle your amounts owed for less than you owe..
there are major problems with this. first, you constantly have 150 day LATES on your credit report, since the matters you have are never settled as per your initial agreement with the people you owe... second, at the end of the year you get TAX STATEMENTS for the amounts of the reductions (ITS INCOME) and you have to pay tax on it... so if you cannot afford to pay back say the 30,000 in debt, and you SETTLE for $8,000 - you have to pay income tax on $28,000.... also most companies charge a percentage of what you owe to work with you - up front no less.... AND if you owe TOO LITTLE they do not want you since there is no money in it for them...

you have every resource at your disposal to help yourself completely..... you just need some guidance and SUPPORT while you help yourself..... PM me and i'll help you.... or at least chat with you and help you decide which direction is best for you....

this is just the TIP of the iceburg... people need BUDGET & CREDIT EDUCATION.... that is what i do...
People 4 People..... what you need to do is, identify your goals, develop budget stability, increase your monthly cash flow, raise your credit score monthly..... people get themselves INTO difficulties, they CAN get themselves OUT of difficulties....

Kudos to you for providing such a valuable service! I've long considered debt consolidation companies as little more
than folks who prey on those at their most vulnerable point. My guess is that if we all had more budget and credit
education earlier on, we'd be far better off. ;-)

Contact your creditors directly and work with them. They can help keep negative reports off of your credit report, if your honest and work with them.
