There was a 1800 heart patient experiment done on this subject, sponsored by the Templeton foundation. So we don't really have to guess at whether or not prayer works.

God answers prayers all the time. The problem that most people have is they don't like when the answer is 'No'.

I believe in prayer to God asking Jesus to be an intercessor. I have 4 experiences that I can say was definitely and answer to prayer, 3 job related and 1 a healing. Do you want me to tell my stories?

There is no guarantee God will say yes when you pray. If he says no its probably because it wasnt the best for you and others around you. Like a good and wise father, God only gives whats best for you. When you pray God gives you the tools to help you with what your praying for, its up to you to use them.

Sometimes god's greatest gifts, are unanswered prayers.

And to think: I promised myself I'd stay out of the religion thread. DOH! But this topic hits close to my heart.

I've received enough divine assistance in my life to be grateful to something greater than me. I'm in no way a preacher, so I won't pretend to define what or who that "something" is. But I think that prayer needs action to manifest. When I've prayed for a certain job, I've always done the required work to make it probable that I would get that job. I prayed I would get it, while doing the work and while waiting for a response. For example, I can pray all day that my novel will get published...but unless some crazed publisher/burglar swipes it off my desk, my prayers are moot unless I submit it for publication. That's just been my life experience. If I pray for something, but do nothing, nothing happens. If I pray for something, and do something about it, usually I get what I requested. And no, by doing something, I don't mean buying a Powerball ticket, although I have been guilty of doing just that!

I think prayer is a grace, and a needed respite when we're faced with overwhelming odds. But I also think we sometimes have to stare in the face of something we just can't do...without help. Then we pray, and somehow do it anyway.

And yes, I keep The Prayer of Jabez and The Dream Giver on my night table.

Sermon over!

Probably because God knew you couldn't afford the payment on a Lamborghini or that it would lead to your death after losing control of your vehicle at a high speed????

RichTig, no one is making you pray. its just a way to talk to your God your father. Its fine that your questioning religion it only helps you understand it more, and for every question the bible has an answer, thats why we turn to the bible. And I dont remember and catholic priests dying for you.

RichTig: Rich in What?
If money is the most important thing in your life, you'll be miserable. But if God's values are most important, and if his values shape the way you use your money, you'll be happy indeed.
