Alert | Does anyone know what is going to go into the field behind the school? Went to CG yesterday and noticed that the field is empty and big. I know that on the other side of the street is the supposed Tortosa South, but the area behind the school, no clue what that is.
Anyone know too if they are still working on the Tortosa South area? It didn't look like much has been done, if anything, in the month that i was last back that way. I would guess with the housing market, maybe they are going to wait before proceeding with new homes?

Alert | We border that field, and it is my understanding that will EVENTUALLY be more houses. I'm hoping things roll faster than they will, I expect when those houses start going in I might get to see the fishing pond my family would like to use (with luck BEFORE my kids grow up.)

Alert | hmmmm....if there was a zoning issue, there would have been signs notifying all of us that a city council meeting was being held to discuss zoning in this section or that section. also, the vw plant, once they move, that is being made into another master planned community, not a business park. maybe businesses will be inside the community, but the land will be mostly a housing community. Also, they do not build homes to make them solely section 8, plus, realistically, no developer would build a project housing community inside of a master planned community. its possible homes could be buit and the landlord makes them section 8, but homes are generally not built to be used only as section 8. grew up in section 8 housing for several years. Not sure where you heard that info from....seems fishy to me.
i am thinking what others said, probably going or was going to be more new homes....but im going to guess that will be put on hold for now.

Alert | Well, maybe every area is different, however, if you're talking about a normal looking home being made into a Section 8 home, that does not require zoning. Maybe you're thinking of the apartment buildings that are usually built in big cities that are considered the "projects", I believe they would need zoning. Could be wrong on that one. I know in NYC, there are apartment buildings that are solely for low income/low rent and are considered the projects. Section 8 housing is basically, an owner working with, i believe HUD, to make the home into a Section 8 home. The owner then agrees to accept so much money in rent between the govt and the renter.
The thing about Section 8, which I do believe some people don't realize, is that the homes are absolutely normal looking. You can't look at a home and think, oh that's Sec. 8, because it's a normal, everyday kind of home. It's just for whatever reason the owner decides that they want to allow it to be Sec. 8.
I also believe that every area has their limit. Not sure if this is per city or per community, basically, Tortosa may not have more than 100 homes or Maricopa as a city can't have more than 100 homes, but again, not sure if it's a limit per town or per community, but usually there is a limit.
Reason why I do know about Section 8, is because I grew up in Section 8 housing. I grew up in a normal, everyday kind of home, where no one knew we were a bit lower income, because our house was just a normal looking home on a normal street with normal neighbors and no zoning was required.
But like i said, every place could be different, so who knows. I guess back to the originial topic and not to start a debate over who's right or wrong in terms of how Sec 8 works, I guess we'll find out what happens with that field maybe in a few years.
I still wish we had a big community park with tennis courts. I think our park is cute, but for the size of Tortosa, I think it should just be a big bigger.

Alert | | I really am surprised for the size of Tortosa and possibly Tortosa South, that the developers didn't plan a bigger community park. I admit, I like the set up that Desert Passage has, the walking trails, baseball field, pool. The only thing I can think of is, maybe the city wouldn't allow for a bigger park? Who knows, but I would be in favor of a bigger community park. considering can't find the catch and release lake....a bigger park would be awesome.
