Did anyone watch this special report on Dateline, it featured Mariocpa. I'm surprised that I haven't read anything about it on this website or on the threads! Just saw the Dateline story .... makes me want to cry except for one thing ... if that story went national ... maybe out of towners will see Maricopa as a place for big, inexpensive homes to move to. I don't know ... but people in Long Island NY for example ary paying in excess if $10,000 a year for property taxes ... maybe they'd see the story and make a move here ... going west for the gold so to speak. Ya neva know .... All I pray for is this to all turn around so all of us who are sticking around can see equity again and oh yeah .... maybe get blessed with a movie theater and hospital and Wal Mart!

While no one wants their "home town" portrayed as a possible ghost town...I'd have to agree with ny2copa....there are still a multitude of future buyers shut out of the market back east...and this story just might make them interested enough to check us out... What Maricopa needs now are buyers willing to commit to a town that is having growing pains and excercise patience until big business comes...

I agree with NY2Copa and Garden Glow. I am hopeful the city keeps growing and they predicted there would be growing pains. I love coming home to Maricopa away from the smog of Phoenix. Once we get Walmart, a movie theater, some more urgent care places and some more sit down restaurants this will be the perfect place to live. I am anticipating these will all be here within the next 1-2 years. Be patient, I am confident things will turn around.

Very interesting. I don't know if "poster child" is fair but this is certainly the biggest real estate bust I've seen up close and personal.

I'll tell you one thing...we have one smart mayor. If those builder would worry more about selling to families instead of investors, This town would be much different today. They should worried more about building a community instead of their bottom line. Maybe some of them wouldn't be filing bankruptcy. This is happening to so many town across America. I would still pick this town over Chandler any day. Most homes I looked at up there were 1700 sq ft for the same price and I still would have had to put in 20 grand in renovation because it wasn't taken care of. No thanks.
