So I wake up this morning and let the dogs out the side door when I hear this roar from my back yard. What the he... I'm thinking to myself. It's to dark to see, but it sounds like our pools waterfall is running. I go to the back door and hit the lights and sure enough the waterfall is pooring happily from the grotto. I grab the remote and try to turn it off, but this baby is on auto pilot. I hit the pool lights and must say that it was very pretty with the steam billowing up from the pool and the water dancing around from the falls.

So I wait until the sun is up and walk outside, but the pumps have shut off now. I inspect everything and everything controls properly with air temp showing 34F. I go back inside and tell the wife. We go look out and the falls are back on along with the aerator...what the... I walk outside again and check the temp....ah haaaa 33F.

Does anybody else have a system that turns itself on to prevent pipe freezing (pretty sure this is what's happening). Freaked me out at first.

alanf, may I ask who built your pool? We are in the process of pool shopping and have spoken with Shasta ans Presidential, both are about the same price, Presidential seems tio offer a little more. We are also looking to get the Grotto (with the slide). What size Grotto do you have? Is it worth the price? Seems like a really cool feature. I will have to inquire about the function you speak of to prevent freezing, as well as the remote function.

We had the same thing happen to us the other morning! One minute the water from the grotto and water slide was on and the next time I would check it was off and then on again like yours with the aerator as well. I had no idea what was going on!!

I did not even think about it turning it self on to prevent the pips from freezing, no one had told us about that. That has to be what it is. Thanks you have solved our mystery!!

Family Guy, we used Shasta for our pool and in the end it was the warranty that sold us over Presidential and Paddock Pools. I have a ton of pool pictures of when they were building our pool as well as the Grotto/water slide/water fall(we made it bigger during the build to add the water fall feature) if you would like to check them out just let me know and I will send you the link. And yes with 3 kids to us it is totally worth it!!

Thanks mommyto3, with respect to the warranty, I believe that Shasta had lifetime on the Shasta Stone where Presidential had 3 years on the Pebbletec. The guy at Presidential said that Shastas lifetime warranty did not cover cracking, only if something were to happen with the actual stones, is that true? Also, did you get the salt water system? Presidential is including that "for free".

Can you send me the pix that you spoke of ?

Thanks again.
