With all the talk at the Annual Meeting about the extremely high water bills for watering the common areas, why were the sprinklers on over the past weekend when we just had a deluge of rain over the weekend?

I'm sure the sprinklers were set before the rain for the overseeding.

night time temps are way too cold for it to take, plus the daytime temps are not high enough for it to germinate unless its some weird rye species. i saw them spraying what i took to be seed last week, but i thinks its way too late for it to really come through. should have done it 1st week in october

Maybe they were spraying mind control drugs into the ground to get us all.......

The beginning of Oct was still so hot, but what they did was use a fertilizer to help with germination...and the mind control...

I was out for a walk early this morning with the dogs.........between rain showers.........and the grass is being watered. Rain last weekend, rain this weekend.........SHUT THE WATER OFF!! The overseed is going to rot with all the standing water. I turned my drip off at home so I don't drown the plants.......surely a professional landscape company would comprehend that.

Was out after noontime today (12/08/07)and the sprinklers were still running. AND, it's been raining on and off all day today. The rain overflows are filled with water, and STILL the sprinklers are running. How much more proof do we need that the HOA doesn't care, and doesn't know what's going on? Just exactly WHY did HOA president complain about the high water bills, and still allow the sprinklers to be turned on? Is anyone in charge?

The sprinklers are on a timer. The landscape company doesn't sit out here to see if it is or isn't going to rain. If the rain hadn't come and they had turned off the water you would be complaining that they weren't watering!

FYI, our actual dollars for water is down significantly this year from last.

I'm not sure if the landscapers do the entire community the same day or not. The last I saw them, they were here on Mondays. Now, after the weekend rains and the amount, I would think they would at least adjust the timers to compensate for the rain. I wouldn't think that it would be too difficult to "stop by" and make those adjustments.

I'm curious as to why the significant drop in water costs. What will be done with the money? I for one, would like to see pet waste containers in our common areas. Maybe that would stop, if not significantly lower, the amount of pet waste.

The landscapers are out here everyday, however on the weekends they can not just 'stop by'. That would be like you guessing that it's raining in Tempe and stopping by to turn the water off there.

Water is lower because it's been a wetter year. Good suggestion about the pet waste containers. Why don't you use the HOA website feature contact the board and let the board know your idea? :o)

Rain has been forecast since last Wednesday for the whole weekend, so that's no excuse, indeed if one is needed. A big deal was made at the annual meeting in October about the tremendously high water bill (I believe in the neighborhood of $235,000 for the year) and discussion was made about changing the green areas to xeriscapes. Also, the last year was one of the driest as well as the hottest on record. These should be verifiable facts.

The question of dog poop in the common areas was brought up earlier this year at the time of the Easter Egg Hunt, and whether kids should be foraging around in the grass looking for Easter eggs. Some of the Easter eggs they find could be "brown" ones. That thought was pooh-poohed away, as no one's dog (or dogs) did their business (heaven forbid!) in the common areas. I've yet to see anyone carrying a plastic doggy bag when walking their dog, and have found evidence of that both on the sidewalks and in front yards. Dogs have been around longer than the HOA board; why should this be news to the HOA board? I don't think the HOA board thinks that dogs even poop! They can't even turn off the sprinklers when rain has been forecast 4 and 5 days in advance.

most drip systems have a seasonal adjustment on them so when the humidity reaches a certain amount the system won't water. Surely, this must be a feature the landscapers are aware of and if the system doesn't have one it should.

Bob J ~ First, the rain, I'm not sure how long you have been in AZ, however just because it's forecast doesn't always mean it will come. Second, the water bill you are referring to is the '06 bill. You can check online, but as of November our '07 bill is sitting at $86,000, and lastly, I suggested contacting the board directly because a) it will use a resource we pay for and b) there are new board members.

WHAT? ~ I'm going to guess that our sprinkler system does not have the feature you speak of, but I will ask. Thank you.

I've been here 2 and a half years, and yes I do know that just because a rain forecast doesn't always mean it will come. BUT, these were major rain storms from the Pacific, that had been forecast many days before they came, not like the monsoon storms that may or may not materialize.

It's news to me that we pay for HOA board members, or is that the resourse we pay for that you referred to?

And, secondly, why such a vast difference between the '06 bill and the '07 bill to date. We had more rain in '06 than so far in '07, and that's a difference of $149,000. That $149,000 difference would surely pay for the sprinkler feature that "WHAT" speaks of.

Welcome to Arizona, I've lived here for almost 30 years.

I'm not sure where you got the idea we pay the board members. The resource I was talking about is the Acacia Crossings' website.

Not sure about the difference as I am newly elected to this board.

I will not debate back and forth here. However, if you would like to contact the board using the HOA website 'contact' feature I will be more then happy to help as will the other board members.

Thank you.

the green belt areas look like a 16 yr old boys chin with peach fuzz on it, real patchy and uneven
