Alert | My 2002 Kia Spetra died Sunday at Pacana Park. It worked fine on the way there, but then it wouldn't start as we were leaving. It clicks but that is all. A friend towed it to our house. My husband thinks it is possibly the starter. Anyone know where that is on a Kia? Or, is anyone a mechanic and wants to give some solicited advice? Or does anyone else have a Kia and can give advice? -Christine

Alert | | Sounds like the ignition. I had the same problem with an older car I used to have, the alternator needed to be replaced. Good luck with it! | | Spring training is just around the corner!

Alert | If all it does is click, then you probably just have a dead battery or loose battery posts/cable connection. It is a relatively simple/cheap fix unless your battery is hidden in the innards of your car's body like it is on mine.

Alert | sounds like your battery is dead...
If it was your alternator, it wouldn't run at all (or until the battery ran out of juice)...
Jump start it, go to Autozone, and have them test your car... it's free..

Alert | To me, Click - click - click is starter solenoid.
Battery is usually a aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh- ugh. Sigh, I'm too tired to do anything type sound. You may or may not have lights depending on how dead it is.
If the battery tests good but not charged, suspect the alternator of not charging the battery.
That would be the order I'd suspect.

Alert | | If it's a 2002 with an original battery, I'd yank out the battery and take it down to AZ or Checker for a free battery test. 5-6 years is a great run for a battery in this climate.

Alert | if it is a click click click... like real fast, one after another.. battery.
Best way to tell..
Turn on your lights.. start the car.. then you should hear the click click get slower and pretty much go away. Of course your lights will DIM to nothing..
If its a starter.. your lights won't dim much - and the click will be the same.
I bet its your battery. | | | |
