Alert | ok people.. why is it that you feel the need to slam your brakes when a "O, NOES!1!!! A PHOTO VAN" moment happens?? really..
I'm fine with you SLOWING to 65 or so (you know, tap the brake to disengage the CC)... but SLAMMING the brakes to 45mph is just plain stupidity... (BTW, "slamming" the brakes is when I see your entire front-end nearly hit the road)...
I was trucking along just fine with the CC set at 70mph when the dumbass in front of me decided to "O, NOES!1!!, I better do 35mph in a millisecond to avoid a ticket".. YES, THIRTY-FIVE FRICKEN MILES PER HOUR YOU DOUCHETARD... You would think a deer had run infront of this guy..
... and guess what speed he was doing after passing the van?? yup.. at least 80mph...
be sensible people.. chances are if your doing 70mph, you're not getting a ticket.. if you think (or fear) you might, then MAINTAIN 65mph the whole way and save the other people you're SHARING the road with your lack of making an intelligent decision (i.e. tap the brake and gradually slow down)...

Alert | Shane, you're preaching to the choir.
I know exactly how you feel...it's one of the biggest road pet peeves I have EVER! I guess I learned how to stop cursing and telling people how they are douches....ahhhhh@@!!! It drives me nuts, but even rounding a slight bend in the road people start tapping their brakes, what the heck?
and God be with us if there was someone pulled over on the interstate or freeway, good lord.....people will start slamming on their brakes in fear of the police or to just gawk.
Wow....this is just one of the many on my list (idiots who refuse to use turn signals, people who insist on turning on their brights blinding oncoming traffic even after driving on Maricopa road a billion times...they can't see for poop. Ahhhhhhh!!!
okay...ending my rant also.

Alert | Besides that, by the time you see them, it's too late. If you're speeding, you've already been caught.

Alert | It still happens in Scottsdale on the 101 all the time. Almost every time I drive that section of road you always see someone slam on the brakes and do 45-50 past the photo radar, they should start taking pictures of people going to slow!

Alert | | Seriously I don't know how many "almost" accidents I have been in with people going to slow. Either someone almost rear end me or vice versa. It is so annoying. You will not get a ticket for going the speed limit (that's why it is the speed limit duh!) So I don't know why there is a point to go 45 or less. | | "If Opportunity doesn't knock, build a door..."

Alert | | Maybe we should stop worrying about how fast the next guy is going and focus on space between vehicles. Do you leave yourself enough space to come to a complete stop without hitting the guy in front of you if he slams on his brakes? Drivers that tailgate bother me the most!

1. I leave ample room for me to stop in case the person infront of me has to do an emergency stop.
2. It's not about how fast/slow the person is going... It's about the fact that they make me have to slow down to HALF the speed limit because they get freaked out over photo radar... This is unnecessary and dangerous... When the idiot slams the breaks, it causes a chain reaction to the people behind them... Ever wonder why you are at a complete stop for a few seconds on the freeway? Chances are it was because of an idiot driver a few MILES up the road...
3. Tailgaters don't bother me a bit... I could care less how close you get to me..

Alert | Photo Radar Rocks! Get em' all!
Drive the posted speed, follow the car in front of you by 2-3 seconds, relay your intentions by signaling first, and assume that everyone around you will not follow these rules. | | 47.2 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot!

Alert | It is absolutely amazing to me that our country has become a society of "let's play to the LCD (lowest common denominator)."
Why in the world should I assume that someone does not know how to drive if they are on our roadways? I always drive in a way that allows for emergency situations (and knock on wood have never been in an accident), but why exactly is photo-radar an emergency? Why is that ok and suddenly something I should be expecting?
Why do people assume that those who complain about such things are somehow part of the problem, as in they must be driving too close? Notice he didn't say he got in an accident with that person who was completely IDIOTIC behind the wheel, but was concerned that they feel it necessary to react at emergency levels to such a thing as photo radar.
There are actually people out on the roads who think about how they drive and how it impacts drivers around them. I appreciate any reminders given here to educate those drivers who think the world revolves around them and that they can make up the rules as they go along.

Alert | You would assume they don't know what they are doing because assuming they do makes you more likely to be involved in an accident. Why does every police force teach defensive driving as the most credible solution to being safe in your car.
Honestly, do you really believe that if everyone followed the speed limit, kept safe distances, and obeyed all the rules of the road we wouldn't reduce traffic accidents?
Write me off as Orwellian if you wish. But until DARPA helps automate the entire Urban Driving Challenge, pun intended, then I will continue to drive like the rest of you are nuts!

Alert | | I'm not saying that I am not aware that there are inexperienced and generally foolish drivers on the roadways. I just don't think we should give up on educating people about safe driving habits. I also think an open forum like this is a great place to commiserate. ;P

Alert | | I will always slow down to 55 or 50 when I see photo radar now. Especially since I will have no way of knowing if the speed limit is 55 or 65 based upon how frequently it changes on the road. I got flashed for going 63. Ticky tack tickets like that cause a reaction to form that makes the person brake rapidly regardless of how closely they are obeying the law.

Alert | | I get you on the speed limit thing. but anything below 55 is not necessary since it never goes below 55 on the 347. Question though have they made it official to keep it 55 past Casa Blanca on the way into town? I noticed it does not go back up to 65, but it does go back up to 65 on the way out of town? | | "If Opportunity doesn't knock, build a door..."

Alert | | It was really messed up this weekend. Going north, the 55 sign was covered up so it was 65 through the CB intersection going north and 55 south. And still no 65 sign south of the intersection. But hey, supposedly the speed limit is what is safe, even though all common sense says otherwise... | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | | Does anyone know how fast you can go before getting a ticket? Is it 11 over like in scottsdale? Just curious... | | "If Opportunity doesn't knock, build a door..."

Alert | | I thought it was 11 over, but at any rate, if you're going 65 or less in a 55 on 347, the most they can issue you is "waste of finite resources". | | Joined: Jul 2005
