In 2002 Arizona past a law that requires drivers to change lanes when there is an Officer stopped on the shoulder.

Roger Vanderpool stated on the news yesterday that they are going to be placing signs to bring it to the motoring publics attention.

Lets give our Law Enforcement Officers more room to do their job safely. They protect us, so lets do all we can to protect them!

I have always moved over when there is a car on the shoulder, officer or civilian changing a tire even. I don't want to be responsible for someone opening a car door and my killing them

If you can't spot the loser, it might be you

Please provide the statute. I heard it's a courtesy that if you can get over, you should, but not required by law.

28-775. Authorized emergency vehicles; approaching; following fire apparatus; defensive driving schools; driver license examinations

E. If a person who drives a vehicle approaches a stationary authorized emergency vehicle and the authorized emergency vehicle is giving a signal by displaying alternately flashing red or red and blue lights, the person shall do either of the following:

1. If on a highway having at least four lanes with at least two lanes proceeding in the same direction as the approaching vehicle, proceed with due caution and if possible, with due regard to safety and traffic conditions, yield the right-of-way by making a lane change into a lane not adjacent to that of the authorized emergency vehicle.

2. If changing lanes would be impossible or unsafe, proceed with due caution and reduce the speed of the vehicle, maintaining a safe speed for road conditions.

How is putting signs up the same as enforcing the law? They recently put signs up on the 347 telling slower drivers to move to the right lane but it has done nothing.

Caveman' I need to inform you that what I heard on the news was not installed signs; but billboards, along our freeways.

And I gotta tell ya, that the "slower Traffic Keep Right" sign has BEEN EFFECTIVE. I see it everyday.

The flow of traffic along the 347 in my opinion is getting better.

Inside the city of Maricopa? There is a jerk that drives a black Tahoe, that I would love to kick his as. He is a Yuppie, and I'm a Grandma. I have no fear!

pfunk- Granny5X is not about to provide you with the Statue. I never claimed to even know the statue. Go back and read my post. All I posted was what I heard on the radio from Roger Vanderpool.

You can sit on your couch and play armchair-politician, when I am only trying to let my fellow travelers have a heads up!

Go dye your hair, paint your nails black, and look for the billboards; that is if you have a car.

It appeared to me that the "slower traffic keep right signs" were working too.

Marni- Have you seen traffic pass you and get over? And do you pass traffic and then get over yourself?

Thank you for your post about the signs working.

Wow, I just got owned by Granny.... what color should I dye my hair? Blue, like yours?

However, please read your original post because senility is setting in. You said "In 2002 Arizona past a law that requires drivers to change lanes when there is an Officer stopped on the shoulder." then went on to state that you heard about a campaign to promote awareness. Had you constructed your words with greater care, they would have been conveyed correctly. My 2nd grader has learned the importance of putting sentences in the proper sequence. Heck, my 3 yr old know that.

It's not uncommon that when someone states a law, that a statute be presented(or requested) to back up your statement. Especially for a law that not many people are aware of. I asked for the statute and even said 'please' and was attacked for it. I was neither rude nor attacking, unlike yourself.

pfunk- You are so right. My sequence was screwed up. My apology. I was rude to you, and should not have been. I am being serious pfunk, so let's take off the boxing gloves. Again; sorry.

Blue? no, anything but that. It fades way too fast!
