Alert | I'm posting this for a friend that is trying to help a family that she knows. They are REALLY bad off. Please contact her directly if you can help. *****************************************************
Hi, I'm helping a family that has TWO infants (newborn & 8 mos)--one of which was "forced" on the 15 year old, but which she has decided to keep nonetheless.
They live in a single room, because that's all they can afford, so don't have much space, but could really use a bassinet or better yet something like a bassinet for twins that doesn't take up much room.
A FEW clothes (& whatever babies need) for the babies, both girls, would be helpful. They have a bathtub now, but not much else. Clothes for the coming cold season would be particularly appreciated.
Also, they have an 8 year old boy who wears size 8 slim pants & a size 8 shirt. He could use some school clothes--I'm pretty sure Stanfield Elem. requires a uniform & I know we couldn't find any last year at the thrift stores. Also, a couple of sweat shirts, or warmer play clothes and some play pants (he mostly has shorts) would be awesome.
This family lives in a trailer that most of us would not consider habitable--windows broken out, no oven (has a stove), no refrigerator (we got them a dorm-size one that is kept in their room), and no heater. They sleep together on a king size mattress which is placed on the floor to cover the holes that go all the way to the ground. The 15 year old has a twin bed for her and her baby that is also directly on the floor.
The mother and father, and sometimes the 15 year old, work (when they are able to take the babies with them) so they are not destitute--but money goes for essentials and there is nothing much left for "treats" so any help that you can give, I'd deeply appreciate. Unfortunately, we just don't have the money to provide them the financial support we'd like to offer.
I'll be more than happy to come to Maricopa and the surrounding areas- -even Laveen, Tempe or ??? to pick up items. What they don't use will be given to others who need it just as much (there is a very, very poor and much overlooked community out here) or freecycled back to others via this list.
