Yesterday about 2PM, my hubby and I were returning to Maricopa from the Phoenix area. Just as we turned onto 347 a blue mini pickup passed by. We were behind him and watched as he swerved all over the road. He pulled over, we thought that he may have dropped a lit cigarette in his lap or something. He then pulled back out on the road and proceeded to pass us as if we were standing still. As he passed, I noticed there was a young boy (about 8-10 y/o) in the front seat!! This driver continued to drive irraticly from lane to lane. When we got to the light at RED, he stopped way before the line, then started to bob his head and rolled right in to the intersection! I called 911 and reported him. The police stopped him and he was a very extreme DUI. This guy could hardly stand up! He was arrested and the boy was turned over to his aunt who was called to get him. I am certain if this driver hadn't been stopped he would have caused an accident or worse yet, killed someone. Most likey to boy.

The police handled the situation with professionalism and concern. They were kind to the boy and his aunt.

Thanks to the men in blue, they will make Maricopa better.

How exactly did you see all this? I mean, you called the cops as he was at a stop light; did you follow him? Were you one of those nosy people who sat there and watched it all unfold?

Just the good ol' boys,
Never meanin' no harm,
Beats all you've ever saw, been in trouble with the law since the day they was born.

Straight'nin' the curve,
Flat'nin' the hills.
Someday the moutain might get 'em, but the law never will.

Makin' their way,
The only way they know how,
That's just a little bit more than the law will allow.

Just good ol' boys,
Wouldn't change if they could,
Fightin' the system like a true modern day Robin Hood.

Kudos go out to Horses R Cool for Doing The Right THING! Most people don't have the nerve to call in 911 to report these kind of things. Nosy people I think NOT! bstoneaz are you one of those lazy people - that wouldn't call in 911 if you seen someone driving like this. Just DO The Right Thing!

Yes, I was one of those nosey people. My husband and I witnessed this driver for several miles before he was stopped. The driver passed a semi and then ran all the way over nearly off the shoulder, ran a stop light with traffic turning left in front of him with a child in the vehicle as he was nodding his head off of the steering wheel. We were right behind him. The cops flagged us in to make a complaint even though they saw the way he was driving. The driver was so drunk he couldn't even do one of the tasks of the sobriety test. And yes, I filed a complaint.

enforcement will start to pick up more if/when the dept. is fully funded/staffed.

i don't like people who uses "signature" on their profile. TAKE IT OFF!!!

OK brainwashed Marine, I never said anything about her calling the cops, did I? I merely asked if she was one of the nosy people who sits there with a drink and watches. The Marine Corps may be able to teach you to take a bullet for your CO but they sure don't teach you common sense and reading comprehension skills.

The Kudos do go to 'The men in Blue', but they certainly also go to Horses R Cool.
I thank you because this child might have hit someone. You stopped that from happening.
That is the way things should work. Nobody else may have picked up on this before you called it in.

Let X=X

I totally agree with you devil dog. Horses R cool did a good job. Some of the people around here would not have taken the time to do what you did. I am certain that if the drunk had continued down the road there would have been an accident. Thanks Horses R cool and your hubby.

Nosy people are good things unless its you getting busted. Right bstoneaz?

Why would this action even be questioned? It's the responsibility of every citizen to take action when others refuse to do so and the lives of innocent people are in danger. Thank you Horses R Cool.

It sounded to me like an adult was driving and there was a child in the car with them. There was no child driving.

Thank you to those who called in the impaired driver. Should he have been allowed to continue driving down the road, a tragic event would have likely occurred. The case was a dual investigation between MPD and PCSO, resulting in several felony and misdemeanor charges against the suspect. It makes it so much easier for law enforcement when citizens not only accurately report such incidents (location, license plate, description, direction of travel, etc), but also when they stick around to give a statement. Thank you again- you definitely helped avoid a tragedy.

OMG...I can't believe that he knew he was trashed and still left the house, bar, whatever and drove like an idiot. I am glad to hear that the boy is safe. Kudos to you and the men in blue.

Good job.. It's what I am going to do next time I see it.. I have the MPD on speed dial.. lol

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.
