My husband and I were headed home from work on Thanksgiving morning at 6am. We were headed SB on I10, just south of Chandler Blvd. Little did we know, there was a HUGE piece of rolled up carpet in our lane. The SUV that was about 1/4 mile ahead of us swerved very suddenly, almost hit the median, almost rolled, and ended up skidding all the way back across the freeway, coming to rest on the gravel shoulder facing us. We pulled over right away. The look that was on this family's face was pure terror. We made sure they were okay, they had a blown out tire that my husband helped change. During that, I was in our car watching traffic and people swerve around this carpet. Another car then swerved violently to miss it, they almost hit the median also, turned in 4 circles, and almost hit our car before gaining control and taking off. I called 911 at that point. When my husband saw that, he and the gentleman in the SUV that we were helping, ran onto the freeway and dragged the carpet to the gravel (it's still there!). The police didn't arrive for 20 min, and I can tell you there would have been a BAD accident by that point if nobody had moved it. The family had been driving all night from San Francisco, heading to visit relatives in Tucson. They gave us a pumpkin pie for our help.
The point of this, is on Thanksgiving Day of all days, this should have ended differently than it did. I have NEVER seen anything like this! We couldn't stop talking about it all day. I must have said 10 prayers in a row. I have more faith in God, that he DOES prevent bad things from happening. my faith has increased 10 fold.
I didn't even get out of our car the whole time; I lost my younger sister to a car accident, and I was a wreck that we had seen all this, and nothing horrible happened. The Lord is here and he does do good things. I had to share.
and of course, drive safe!!!

What a great story!

This should remind everyone to pay attention to the road and watch ahead for obstacles, so they could avoid the carpet like you did. Everyone could benefit from a course in handling their car too, so they don't spin out like those two drivers.
