Tonight, 6 November, my husband was driving home in the southbound lanes of 347. By 5PM, he was just passing the heritage center. A BMW came around from behind him and then cut in front of him sharply. My husband braked and swerved to avoid rear ending the BMW, and unfortunately flipped our 2005 charcoal grey Toyota Scion TC, slid across the southbound lanes, the center median, and the northbound lanes on the car's roof, and then landed wheels down again in the northbound ditch.

My husband is at the hospital now getting checked over. He is alright.

Although some very kind hearted northbound folks stopped and helped my husband, I do not believe anyone from the southbound traffic were able to get turned around and come talk to the police. The BMW did not stop.

If anyone saw anything at all, especially southbound drivers or the BMW driver, would you please contact us? Or the police? If you saw anything at all... Just anything. I'm not looking to stir up trouble for anybody. It would just be good to be able to give the police and everyone a complete story of what the devil happened.

Thank you all very much.

Wow, I am so sorry to hear that happened and I hope your hubby is okay. I missed everything by approx. 30 min. I hope you are able to obtain some info from someone here on the forum. Keep trying to get info. My co-worker was in a little hit and run on her way into the Tukee for work . Just happens she got the plate # and discription of the driver and her hubby is a DPS officer and while he was out shopping at Ace Hardware he caught her! Keep trying and hopefully you will catch that driver of the Beemer!

Live every day as if it were your last and smile!

I'm sorry to hear that, and glad to hear he is OK. That is a dangerous intersection and swerving can produce results such as that. He might want to look into a highway survival course at Bondurant, I hear that they are quite good at training for accident avoidance. It would have been far better to hit the BMW driver.

Sara,
I saw the accident. Unfortunately I was too far behind to see what caused it. I just saw your husband swirve into the other lane and fly across the opposite lanes into the ditch. There was a thick cloud of dust so it was hard to see in front of us or to even see where and how he landed. No one hesitated to help. So many people got out of their cars and ran over to help. They are all awesome people. I started calling 911 but saw that other people standing by your car were on there phones so i disconnected. i prayed that whoever was in that car was ok. Im sorry I cant help with the description of the BMW but I am really glad to hear that your husband is alright. He was very lucky.

If your husband remembers any specifics of the other vehicle, please PM me and contact the police.

You are part of the problem. You never realy acknowlege the dangers of the road and you always want the offender to be right.

Situations like this make a good case for in-car cams.

please do not worry about jason's comments. he would argue with himself if he was the only one online. i think he has a problem that requires him to be a devils advocate. he even counters himself sometimes.
hope your hubby is okay and you have a good deductible for your tC.

Oh my goodness - I am so sorry that this happened to you, that must have been extremely scary for you and your husband.

I have never been a nervous driver, but the 347 is very intimidating!! Drivers are so irratic on there and make decisions that cause terrible repercussions. I was heading home on the 347 the other day - getting very close to the Firebirds Parkway exit, when a small white car came from that road right out in front of me - they were wanting to cross on coming traffic to the other side of the road, to head out towards the I-10 - BUT I WAS RIGHT THERE!!! I had to swerve so violently that I almost tipped my car over and must have missed their car by milimeters. That was the closest that I have ever come to having an accident and I was completely shocked and freaked out by how close it had been.

It just goes to show it's not necessarily how you drive, but how everyone else drives around you! I have been driving for over 20 years and always enjoyed driving - but I tell you, that situation really scared me.

If you haven't got anything nice to say - don't say anything at all!

Oh and by the way, I don't think that Jason was being argumentative, he did say that he was glad that the ladies husband was OK and agreed that was a dangerous road. That's the problem with reading what people right isn't it? Stuff can sometimes be misinterpreted. You can never see people's facial expressions, compassion or sympathy in a post or hear their tone of voice - as opposed to speaking with them face to face.
It's funny because my Mum actually suggested the same thing to me about taking a driving course like that - probably a good idea to help us drive defensively on the road, I might look into it for myself! (smile) because the bloomin emoticons are not working LOL

They work if you let them

sorry, i worded that wrong. jason's problem is he doesn't make his little comments at the appropriate time. the way he worded this one was nice until he suggested driving school. implying that the husband would not have wrecked if he learned how to drive better at bondurant. i think it a compulsion about having to reply if he thinks he knows something. 2300+ posts has got to tell you something.

Hey Jason,

That is a GREAT course! I took it a while back. Very good information.

That is a very bad intersection.

I am glad to hear everything is ok. I wish you could find the person in the BMW. I hope you take his BMW!

This was a nice thread, until you stepped in. My comment wasn't rude but it was a helpful suggestion to someone who could have been a fatal crash. In no way was I being rude or suggesting he was at fault. In case this person doesn't know about this school I thought I'd suggest it, because I hear it is very good. They train you to avoid situations just like this and get out without rolling your car. I was only trying to be helpful. Quit shooting your mouth off and ruining other people's threads.

Mallard, you need to learn to read. I didn't say the offender was right (they're wrong), but highway survival training is a good thing for the future. That's all. Helpful for the future. Quit attacking.

I'm not going to argue it further, I don't want to take away from this thread. Just know that I was only trying to be helpful.

I hope you find the BMW driver. I have been a victim of road rage but was not able to get a description to call into 911.

I am so sorry to hear that this happened! I am glad he is going to be okay! You said he is alright, but it is still a devastating thing to have to deal with the aftermath of an MVA.

I have to agree with Miss Kerry. Jason's intent was to provide a helpful piece of advice to learn defensive driving to protect ourselves from stupid drivers who cut people off. He was actually being supportive in that he wouldn't want someons to have to deal with this again.

Mallard, please don't assume something incoorectly when it was never said in the first place.

Silence, you manage to attack people personally off topic and get away with it--jason only offered a knowledgeable piece of advice AFTER he gave some compassionate commentary on her husband.

Royal PITA, I will keep my eyes and ears open for anyone who had seen this happen. I know people who have successfully mounted signs in the area of the accident with a phone number to seek witnesses. Maybe Carolyn or Scott would be willing to run a little community blurb or even the Communicator or Monitor in their papers requesting info. Just some thoughts, people, don't misconstrue what I am saying please.

I do hope your husband is going to be ok.
