Alert | | In Alterra, we believe we were told that we would have to have each homeowner pay $500 on top of their dues in order to build a pool and then our dues would go up as well in order to maintain the area. Don't quote me on the $500, but I think that is what I heard.

Alert | | Community pools are gross.. Buy your own pool. I have one and I am NOT going to pay extra money so you can too.. | | Tens of THOUSANDS of pure-bred dogs are killed in shelters in the Us EVERY YEAR!
Do your part ~Spay or Neuter your pets ~DON'T buy animals from irresponsible breeders.. ~There is an adoption group for every breed of dog..

Alert | I honestly don't think that the dollar amount is $500.00. Desert Cedars has 418 and we're the smallest community and to collect $500 from all 418 homes would mean that we would collect $209,000.00. That would be one expensive pool.
Edited to get the math correct. | | Senior Member Posts: 4625 Joined: Feb 2006

You do mean $500 right? Not $50. Or your math is a bit off.

Alert | | That seem's like a lot of money, but when you consider everything that goes into the pool and upkeep that isn't too far off. It isn't the same as building a pool in your own back yard. Plus you have upkeep and when people don't own the pool themselves, they treat it with less respect and you end up spending way too much on upkeep. If you take a look at some of the other neighborhood's with pools, their upkeep costs are really high. I think that there are better ways to spend our money right now, like getting lights in the park so it is safer at night.

Alert | <---sits back and smiles as he walks home through the Vreds and glances at his pool. Then walks through the house to his back yard and sweeps the walls of his pool.
Oh My! did I type that out loud? .. sorry! | | Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem. ______________________________________ *************************************** San Diego Super Chargers! GO!!! Alert | <---sits back and smiles as he walks home through the Vreds and glances at his 2 pools, gym, tennis and basketball courts. Then grabs a beer out of the fridge and puts his feet up as the pool guy sweeps the wall of his pool.
Oops, I did too. | | | |

Alert | This is all great info but I really just wanted to know why they said we can’t have one. And Maybe a splash pad would be cheaper. Just wondering.

Alert | You don't want the headache of the pool/splash pad, like we have in VRED.
The people from Alterra will always be jumping the fence or breaking the lock on the gate.

Alert | Getting a pool will be a waste of money, maintenance, time (4 months out of the year) and a tons of headaches not including the Insurance.
We can't afford lights for the park and toddler areas - what makes you think that a pool is a good idea?
How many people will use the pool 1/4 of the community if that. I don't want my kids around nut cases and child predators in today world.
Who will provide security? Block Wacth
Just some questions to put out there. | | "Always Moving Forward"

Alert | | By the look of the Good Ole Community pool on CG Hwy.. EVERYONE that doesn't have a pool would be coming to the MM to swin in a nice.. new.. clean.. Pool. If they ever considered it, we would have to have some sort of Yearly or Season membership for the people that would like to use the pool. I'd bet that if they did this many of the people (like myself) that may be considering dropping 30K on a new pool would reconsider. We would save much more water as well.
