Hello

My family is moving into the area at the end of the month. My wife tends to get lost where ever she drives so I was thinking about getting her a portable or permanent GPS device for her car. I have tried to google and mapquest our new address and the sites were unable to locate the address. I would think this would also come into play on the GPS mapping software. Does anyone has a GPS device that works in Maricopa that you would recomend. I forgot to mention it has to be easy to use because she isn't that savy with electronics either.

Thanks for any information

Maricopa is too new for all the map system/software. I doubt you'll find any GPS system that has all the roads/streets of Maricopa.

I have the factory GPS in my Yukon and my Prius. They have most of the Maricopa roads and even cover the really rural roads where we live in Hidden Valley. I also use a Garmin Legend Cx Hand Held GPS for my off highway adventures. You can get the City Map package for it and use it both on your PC at home and download maps to the portable GPS. The bigger flash card you have, the more map area you can download. The PC software runs about a hundred bucks and is updated each year. The GPS unit comes with a plain old base map.

Depending on what you want to spend, there are several car models available that are easier to use and have a larger screen. You can probably google "Garmin GPS" and find their product line.

Your address is probably too new for Google, especially if the neighborhood is under construction.

Hope this helps.

But something you can do is input some of your own waypoints just by traveling to some of those destinations and marking them when you get there. Give the waypoint a name and store it like a computer file. I have all sorts of locations on mine over many years and a lot of them are deep desert {trackless?}. But then most of my GPS work is for fun. Good luck.

Chuck, that's exactly what I do with mine. Sometimes I will go way out into the desert to shoot photos and find a really picturesque spot. I want to come back to that same spot the next season to get pictures of it in bloom. That is the best way to find it. I also use mine to trace my route so that I can load the route on my PC and see where all I've been. It is so much easier to see what's up when you look at the big PC map rather than the GPS screen.

AZnitro, another good point for Garmin is that their Map Source software interfaces with Google Earth. You can pull up your map and waypoints and then look at the aerial or sat photos and get a better idea of how the place looks.

Try the Tom Tom. A friend of ours has one and it works great out here. Some of the really new streets/developments aren't on there yet, but most of Maricopa, including the outlying places like where DD lives, are on there.
