Alert | it's a shame that it is not even alarming anymore that there are accidents... people have to learn, we all get there, within minutes of each other, there is no point i jeopardizing everyone.... it's a sad thing....
.... hey if you live in maricopa, how do you start EVERY conversation? .....While i was siiting in traffic today.....

Alert | | This intersection is a bad one with people driving 60-90 mph North and Southbound on the 347 and people trying to turn left and right from Firebird Road. I have witnessed multiple times when a car turns Southbound from Firebird Road right in front of cars heading Southbound on the 347. I also think accidents have increased at this intersection as winter sets in and darkness comes earlier (morning and night) where people are not able to see cars as well. | | I previously had 1 trillion posts!

Why can't people pay attention??
Oh people pay attention, they just don't care. Every time someone has pulled out in front of me, including the ones that did it so close I had to swerve into the next lane, give me the finger when I honk at them.
They need to completely eliminate left turns at that intersection and give traffic coming from Maricopa Rd onto 347 an acceleration lane. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | that would work.. then instead of plowing into someone (t-bone-ing) when they dart out, they can just push us off the road when they just blend in... LOL i'm for it!....

I agree that they need to eliminate left turns at that intersection. But to give the right turn an accelleration lane would cause more troubles during high peak traffic that it would help.
Look what happens on the 10 Fwy around the QC exit. Heading south (or technically east) in the merge lane, no one in the middle lane wants to let anyone merge in and the people merging always want to get in front of the cars on the left.
Adding an accelleration lane on the 347 would most likely cause a huge backup at that point for the same reasons.

Alert | | That could be alleviated with a signalized acceleration lane. You know how the ramps getting on the highway have the light? Put one of those in. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | | Hummm. So Jason are you saying we should make our Highway more like a freeway then? Well, as much as we all would like that, it is not going to happen... I think they should get rid of the turning lane all together and make it an underpass. Oh wait. That would be another idea towards a "freeway style of a highway". Nevermind. They (ADOT) will just add more lights and bogg up our commute even more. [grumble, grumble]... | | "Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Alert | Yeah, signalized controls would probably work very well -- of course, assuming that people actually obey the traffic signals!
Unfortunately, I think 347 is going to keep turning more into a regular street, instead of remaining a state HWY. I doubt it will ever get to something like HWY 87 (AKA Arizona Ave in Chandler), unless the reservation builds more casinos or other commercial buildings, but I could see them lowering the speed limit to 55 sometime in the future.
