Alert | | Has any one using cell service from Cingular/ATT, that if you dial 511 for traffic info in Maricopa you get traffic info from New Mexico instead of AZ. We can't reach AZ 511 until we are past the traffic light (north) at Cobblestone/RED area.

Alert | | I called Att, this weekend. They are telling me that although there is a ATT cell tower three miles from my house, our phones are chosing a tower in New Mexico. The tech person couldn't explain why. And really wasn't understanding that Maricopa is located alot farther from New Mexico, than the cell tower 3 miles down the road. Although the 511 situation is not a big issue, I do have a concern if we would need to make a 911 call. We have recently upgraded our phones to the g3 network in the hopes of getting better reception ( just a little difference inside the house i believe). It may be time for a change however I am not sure how to test the 911 thing without actually making the call and tieing (sp) up the emergency line. Any suggestions.

Alert | Dot, I'm sorry to hear that AT&T apparently hasn't recovered from the Cingular fiasco.
My wife and I were happy AT&T wireless customers for 8 years prior to its merger with Cingular. Then, within a few months, our service became so bad our phones would hardly work here in Maricopa.
We changed to T-Mobile as soon as our contracts expired. What a difference!! We had almost forgotten how cell phones were supposed to work during our 2 years with Cingular.
I still believe AT&T will put the pieces back together, but apparently it is going to take some time. From what the customer service technician told you, it is obvious he is poorly trained. Too bad. Consumers deserve better when one considers the costs of the phones and service.

Alert | Dot- There is a ZERO chance that you are serving from a BTS in NM. A more likely and probable senario is that the BTS here is switched out of NM. CS agents don't know there head from a hole in the ground when it comes to the network.
911 should route correctly. This is mandated by the FCC and NO carrier wants to be mis-provisioned with emergency calls.
When new cell sites are tunred up, 911 calls are required. If everything else is working but 911 routes to the wrong PSAP or comes in phase 1 when it's supposed to be phase 2, the sites transmitters are tunred back off.

Alert | | Celltech. thank you for the info, I do have another problem also maybe you might have an answer. We have a family member here in AZ that has a block on their land line phone that you have to enter a pass code number to allow the call to go through. We can not get through with the pass code number here in Maricopa, but once again as soon as we get past cobblestone/red area we can make the call. ATT had no explaination for that either.

Alert | | That code is inputted using DTMF. Can you access menu systems calling other phone numbers using the keys?

Alert | | Yes I can access other numbers, such as when you call ATT and have to enter a number to get to the right department, with no problems.

Alert | | Do you have your DTMF set for "long" or "short". If set for short, you might try setting it to "long" and see if that makes a difference. I think you find it under "Initial Setup" on your phone's menu.
