Alert | | I am new to Maricopa and have a friend that may be moving her family here as well. Her son is 7 and is autistic and she is concerned about the school programs and resources that are available in the area. Does anyone have any information I can forward to her? Thanks a bunch!!!

Alert | My son is mainstreamed at Santa Cruz. He CAN spend up to 2 hrs in the resource rm a day to get away from crowds, he goes to lunch early, and meets me away from crowds at pick-up for the same reasons.
He is doing really well. We started with Mesa Schools and were not impressed with them, they were not willing to give my son ANY help. Maricopa Schools have been great for my family - especially with the IEP's they are caring and willing to work with me as a parent. I have ALWAYS felt listened to.
There are self-contained classes - I have heard good things from there, but do not have any experience myself.
All in all, I was scared of what this district would have, and have been very happy. . . it is my understanding they do honor IEP's which are currently in place elsewhere - which they are required to do legally.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
