Alert | I was wondering if Breast Milk is as nutritious for adults as it is for baby.
I have a headcold. And am wondering if I should switch from Cow's milk.
Thanks, NEZ | | | |

Alert | that's hilarious!
No it would not be as nutrious for an adult. Our systems are way more evolved than that of a baby... a baby only gets the full value from it up until like age 2 then it drops substantially... I read that in some parenting book

Alert | Okay, not sure if you're serious because I know there are a lot of 'funny' people on here, but just in case...
Actually, if you want to help your cold; put a few drops in your nose. Last year, I put a few drops in my sons nose every morning and night and he never got sick even though he is around a lot of children at work. It also helps any congestion and that is about as close to sick as he got. I'm nervous for this year though. It also works great on diaper rashes and pink eye! If you're interested, here is a link to a list of the many uses of breast milk.

Sorry, If you can't tell I'm very probreastfeeding and I would like to become a lactation consultant. Hope this helps!

Alert | what ever would have made you think to squirt breastmilk up your son's nose! haha That's hilarious!
I am probreastfeeding and fed my daughter for a long time... but never once did I think to put some up her nose.... that is kind weird...haha
My daughter never got sick when I breast fed her. She didn't catch hher 1st cold until age 2. I always said it was the breast milk. God makes the best drinks! haha | | Ppppppbbbbbbssssssssssttttttttt!

Alert | Wow! People on here sure are judgemental!
FYI, I read it in a parenting magazine about putting a few drops (not squirting it up his nose) in his nose to prevent illness even more than just breastfeeding alone. I used to go on breastfeeding.com and they always talked about the many uses of breastmilk and I just thought I would share that with any of you here that may have an open mind. Guess theres not very many! BTW, its not wierd, I'm mean $%@& you act like I am hurting my child.

Alert | ummmm... I think you're a bit sensitive. I in no way acted like you were hurting your child so simmer down there. I asked what would make you think of putting it up his nose. I do think that's a vaild question.... I thought it was fuinny...HA HA.. funny... hence the word "HILARIOUS" in my post. geez! I think I also said I was PRO BREASTFEEDING too.....
no need to cuss at me either....<img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/crazy.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Crazy' align='absmiddle'> | | Ppppppbbbbbbssssssssssttttttttt!

Alert | Never thought about that - does it work like a decongestant?
I've used it for pink eye on several occasions - clears it up right away! Should have seen my FIL's expression when I suggested it for his pink eye! Goodness, I'll never suggest something like that to him again!
I'm sad because my youngest is beginning to wean herself. She is 15 months old. I'm hoping she makes it to at least 2, but she is only eating at nap and bed. . . which is quite a bit less than my other 3 kids.

Alert | Thanks for the POSITIVE feedback love@hm! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only 'wierd' one out there! LOL!
Yes, you can use it in place of saline. I liked to use it in the nose as an extra 'layer' of protection & it worked wonders!
Thats great that you made it so far with bf! I made it 'till 17 1/2 with my last. I wish we were still going strong though because hes sick for the second time in two weeks.
love@hm & any others PM if you ever want and/or need to talk about bf.

Alert | Mo I made it 26 months with my 1st and 19 months with #2 & #3. They all weaned when I lost my milk during pgcy. I know lots of women will just continue with colostrum, but I just didn't have that desire, and was a little sensitive during latch so I was never upset that they weaned.
Now #4 is just not as interested, and I really wanted to take her to at least 2 years.

Alert | | I have heard about putting breast milk in a babies nose to clear sinuses before and also in the ear for an ear infection. It has antiviral properties that I'm sure have many uses!

Alert | | in all the years i've been a "lactivist", I have never heard of using breastmilk for these purposes. I will surely keep them in the back of my mind next time I'm lactating and someone nearby has the ailments! I do think I'll let my FIL treat his own pink eye though, before I offer up some of my breast milk ! hehe | | If you can't spot the loser, it might be you
