We are moving to Senita III he is in 2nd grade. I am weighing my options on what school for him to go to.. I know there is a charter school I am looking at that, then the local maricopa school ( which ever one he would be going to) and then the Kyrene school... ( does kyrene bus to maricopa? ) also what are the school hours? is there a uniform? Thanks in advance! I would love to get diffrent prespectives for people.. my son is also ADHD so might be looking at a 504 plan for him too..
Thanks in advanced!

Living in Senita, he would attend Santa Cruz this school year. There is a uniform policy-basic colors for pants and collared shirts. School runs from 7:30-2:30. Electives are 2 PE classes, music, computers, and library each week. A very good staff of teachers work there. The administrators are great along with the front office staff. Make an appointment to set up a visit to see for yourself.

Also, they are currently building a new elementary on Honeycutt in VRED across from Senita I that will be the new elementary next year.

I am very happy with my son's class at Santa Cruz and find the school very involved with him and his learning. I also like the afterschool program at that campus (my son loves it).

If you're considering Kyrene, think again if your son needs any special accomodations. I'm pretty sure they won't accept out of boundary students with special needs. It's legal and all related to $$money$$.

It's not that they "won't" accept out of boundary students with special needs. It's that there is a formula for capacity that they use. If a district fills a special needs classroom with all out of district students and 10 new students enroll that are NOT out of boundary students, then a new teacher would need to be hired, space for the class found, materials purchased, etc.

So basically they say school ABC can have x number of students per resource teacher (in my school it is 16). When they reach a percentage of that number (like 75% I believe, so our max is 12), they no longer accept out of boundary resource students so that they have space for the students that live within their boundaries.

I believe it is also possible to get on a waiting list so that when a spot opens, they will contact you.

This is also true for NON-special needs students. If the capacity of first grade at school ABC is 100, as soon as they reach that magic percentage (higher than 75% I think) of capacity, they close that grade level for open enrollment.

Also, it is possible that the resource class could be open, but the grade level is closed and so they wouldn't be accepted because of that.

They are also opening a new school in Glenwilde so Senita may possibly go there? I am not sure of the boundaries though.

If I did not have to work my child would be doing a virtual school or home school. But we all gotta work to pay our bills I am very excited to hear good things about santa cruz I have heard alot of bad, and its great to her other opionions!

I've heard good things about Santa Cruz, Kyrene Schools, and Legacy (new charter school) as well. I would certainly way which school has the best program/resources already in place that would best accomodate your son's needs.

We moved here Dec 06 and our kids went to Santa Cruz, we took our 3rd grader out after 2months, bad cirriculum, teachers with bad attitudes, large # of kids in classroom etc. Both of my kids now go to Legacy and it is great. They do have uniforms which are listed on their website legacytraditional.org
